Casino ot me interested
I wasn't aware of texas hold'em and omaha until I worked at a casino I was a slot attendant. I worked there for about a year. anyways I was sitting in the break room bored out my mind then one of te dealers asked me if I wanted to join in a card game called Big 2 so we played and played then I started to beat him more than he beat me so he suggested a game called hold em I was curious so he tought me the ropes and beat on me for about a month until I discovered it was on T.V. so I watched and listened it was then it hit me its not all cards its people too. One of the comercials showed pokerstars the net one so I learned most of the begginner stuff there then my dad got involved too and he said if I make it to the final table in a tourney with over 2000 people involved he'd pay my buy-in to the Calgary Stampede poker touney the next year. ( did'nt happen yet) I showed him a free roll where I placed forth out 695 people he did'nt buy it. So I'am on the quest to the final table in every tourney I enter right now I am averaging the final 4 tables. Thats what brought me here to learn more tricks tips and legits. oh yeah I learned omaha at pokerstars too mostly play hi/lo cause of the odds and stuff.
I am 21 and this was when I was 18 sorry didnt know where to fit this in. ( damn I should have paid attention in English class) |

I learned to play poker by entering a freeroll..was the first time I had ever played holdem. I played as a kid with my dad, 5 card draw, 7 card stud.
Well I was just messing around, and my boyfriend noticed there were only 13 players left an I had a huge chip stack..from playing like a wacko. He coached me the rest of the way and I took 1st for $25. I couldn't believe it. I was playing people that knew how to play, well I figured this is the game for me. Needless to say I have learned to play much tighter than one that first day. And not found tourneys so easy to win. But I do ok |

Right on VSparky, hopefully you aren't being coached on the sidelines these days. And just remember there are more forms of poker then just tight aggressive, but the best way to start out learning...Either way I'll be on the look out for you at the tables at events to come.

I learned during my first semester at college (second semester now.) My friends and I play pretty frequently, like 5 dollar tournament games. I started to play online around winter break, where I quickly lost a good amount of money. Since then I've read a couple books, and tried to gain some more experience online and live (too bad I'm not old enough to hit the casinos.)

I was suckerd in by my friends at work for a home game and lost alot. It took 6 months of books, online play,$1000 and becoming a dealer to get me to the point im at now. Its funny now when I play a home game with my friends i noticed they not to good. Now I place in there games all the time.

I started out with family and small group games in my hometown but I didn't get my first "real" lesson until I was in the service. After losing most of a paycheck or two (and when you're a private there isn't a whole lot to begin with ) I started turning it around and playing better. Been hooked ever since.

I learned to play at school but really learned to understand the aspects the game from a friend I met on Pokerstars. He taught the basics and advanced poker theorums and I accredit all my success in the online and real world poker games to him.

I actually taught myself poker by reading According to Hoyle as a young teen (before most of you were born). I played for pennies with my friends. I've played home games for years with friends but have moved into the online world with its boom. I'm giving the game some serious study now and have great aspirations... Time will tell.

playing poker
Actually my husband taught me online. Since I started I did a LOT of watching to see how everyone else played. I joined a few forums and tried to learn all I couold. I know my game has improved a lot since first learning but am still waiting for that BIG win. The highest win I have ever had was about 300.00

I play Hold 'Em on a league on Mondays, and I learned my baseline skills there. From the league, I evolved to playing online. My fiance (t1riel) introduced me to some great poker sites, including Royal Vegas, Poker Stars and Cardschat. I really honed in on my skills at Poker Stars, and still practice there. After all, practice makes perfect!

I learned how to play poker on the old Intellivision game called Las Vegas Poker and Blackjack. I was about 4 yrs old when I learned how to play. I started going to casinos at 19 and played about once a month. In the last 8 months or so I have gotten quite serious into Hold'em and we have monthly home games. I have been playing about 4 days a week online. I started online about a year ago, only playing with real money in the last 2 months.

I started playing poker when i was a kid growing up, with 4 older brothers around, i learned a few things from them. Started with the 7stud, and 5 card draw, now love texas holdem the best, and seems you never stop learning more about the game.

i played for fun
hi everyone,
i learnt to play poker online about two years ago, on a great site called play for fun lol, sadly it has now closed down, but it was a great way to start, the site was purely play money, with sit n go tournies, multis and regular games. Everyone who joined started on 1k in chips and for the first few months i spent most days topping up never getting higher than 2k, my first poker aim was to place in the top ten in a multi, and to reach the million mark in play money, an impossible dream i thought, but i kept trying and my big poker moment was winning the sites big sunday multi which cost 50k in play money to register, just getting the buy in was hard work, but i did it and beat 300 runners, within two weeks i was a millionaire, lol. this started the poker bug and i decided to try on a real money site, the first real money game i shook all the way through and was about first out, lol. I now play for cash most days online and have a healthy account at bet fred usually placing the top ten on multis. and in january i made the big step of playing live at a casino, i was petrified, my new aim was to reach a final table live, I achieved that goal in feb, winning $800 dollars for first place in a $10 rebuy, and i didnt rebuy, lol. I play three nights a week at the casino, but always stick to the low stakes $4 and $10 rebuys, my aim is to rebuy as little as possible, over the past six weeks i have made 10 final tables, placed 1st, 2nd and fifth, and missed the bubble a few times, but my winnings for this period is about $1,400 minus $200 on buy ins, so my hobby is becoming profitable, but for me the money is a brilliant bonus for doing something i love. Poker has really changed my life dopeychick ![]() |

I'm afraid to say Nick, I'm still learning lol.
The first site I joined was Pacific and I'm still on there today (6 month ago). I started off playing for 'play' money and currently play a lot of sit n gos. I hope soon to progress to ring games though I think it maybe lower limits. Everyone must start somewhere. Read a couple of books and am slowly learning to be a better player. MackemMan ![]() |
