I tought myself how to play poker, as I did crib and euchre.

(really good euchre player) lol

One day I was wonderin' where my bf was, and he was in the comp room so i go in there and ask what he was doin' he say's playin' poker im like oh okay so stayed for a few mins watched, then I got up and said this is retarded, (had no clue what was goin' on) so I left. woke up late night and he was still there, he finally went to bed, so I log on to Ultimatebet and see what was keepin' him up all night, so I sit down at a play chip table and watched and then looked up how to play, and then a few weeks later.. playin' in point tourneys at Ultimatebet finishin' top 20, and my bf and i would have competions who can make the most play chips in 2hours,. we did that for a while. Anyways Long story short,. I tought myself how to play poker by the guidelines Ultimatebet has.

I just started playing this year online and with my freinds. I think its definently tougher to play with people in front of you and not in front of the computer.

very first experience was when i was about 10. About a year ago i played a lil bit of hold'em from time to time. After about 4 monthes into this summer, i've really started to play poker with a serious meaning. Now i sit in front of computer playing in freerolls as practice for real tourneys where i have to buy in.

I learned to play poker when I was a kid. Family get togethers we would play your typical draw, stud, and no peeky games. I wasnt introduced to holdem until last year and learned online at party poker.

Chiropractic school of all things. Breaks between classes and lunch hour there was always a game going on in the caffateria. We then moved to late night gambling sessions. We play all kinds of games but now have settled in hold'em and omaha.

I started cuz I LOVE gambling!! I went to Vegas last year. Didn't know jack about poker. I played only blackjack...But started watching some of it on TV (World poker tour) with my main man Daniel Nugraneau (whatever) and started liking it. So read a couple of books and started playing on pokerstars. Which by the way sucks!

Then slowly got addicted! One good thing, I've never lost more than I can afford!
Now I play poker regularly, and every day learn something new.

I learned poker from my family. We had a friend who we would visit and it would always end with the entire family playing various poker games. It was a lot of fun, and the kids always won as the adults just played out their hands.

Many years later, I picked up Hold'Em and spent quite a bit of time at the B&Ms losing money until I started playing play money at pokerstars...quite a journey

Some friends of mine had become involved in poker and were doing quite well, and they'd been trying to convince me for some time to join them. After putting it off for awhile, I watched a couple of poker shows on TV just to see the basic Hold 'Em game play, then did a few practice games on the computer and played a couple of hands with a friend in a hotel room while on vacation.

The next week I played my first in-person tournament at a local casino. I had stellar luck and made it to the final table as the chip leader (directly taking out my friend along the way - minor guilt pangs there), but quickly lost it all and finished just out of the money.

I've been playing a few low-stakes ring games and tourneys online and still have a lot to learn, but my goal is to become a good player. From what I understand, mastery of the game is a lifelong, ever-evolving process.

I started playing for pennies with my brother and the neighbor kids from across the dirt road from our house. Seven card stud (Dr. Pepper style! --- 10's, 2's, 4's wild); Seven stud low hole card wild, 7 card no peekie night baseball--you name it, we played it and the more wild cards the better. 10 years later I played in my first casino game and got my wild-card-reared butt kicked by a bunch of rocks who must have been salivating when I sat down.

Now, years later I scratch my head wondering how I survived for so long with out knowing diddly squat about the game I loved. I am no pro or even a semi expert but I do manage to eek out a positive cash flow from the low limit games I play and have even won a few cheap tournaments.

I am sure that a few years from now I will probably look back on the present and wonder how I survived playing as badly as I do now!

my mom taught me at 5 with pennies, then i saw rounders as a teen and realized how serious the whole thing was - could finally go to the casinos around here at 18 which is when my friends started getting into it and it evolved from there....new to the online aspect of it all, which is a whole new dynamic because i'm a very body language type person....but i'm getting better at this not seeing the person thing with this forum and its disection of the game
