Actually if you want to play Multi-Table SnGs the 10 and 25 cent games at Pokerstars are rake free. You can play 360 person Holdem and 240 person PLO for 10 cents and you can play 90 person Holdem for 25 cents. For ring games I am not aware of any that are rake free.

WSEX used to offer no rake poker. Now they offer 65% rakeback. That is probably the best you can get unless you are planning to become a FT Pro.

It's not easy. You can't really do it playing cash games, but if you are willing to play tournaments, put in a lot of work, and schedule your play, you can do it.

You need to play only games with added money and overlay. I play at several different poker sites --Bodog, Poker Stars, Full Tilt, Cake, Doyles, Carbon, Party Poker, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet-- each night sitting in on games that pay out more than they bring in.

You can also satellite into Full Tilt tourneys by using your FTPs as a separate bankroll (I detailed how to do this in this post), which will in essence be rake free as well.

ignoring paynorake, which is really just a mediocre rakeback deal, there are at least two other sites out there with a business model that does not rely on taking rake from the pot: norakeonline( rake-free, subscription based) and betraiser (rake-free, 10% charge on net profit).

So the question is, why aren't we all playing on sites like these when they represent much better value for money?

because the 5% you are referring to is the charge (before the cap) of bets placed in play in a raked game whereas the 10% on net profit i was referring to is the charge on withdrawals over and above your initial deposit.

e.g. you deposit $100 and run in up to $250. you decide to withdraw $150. you pay 10% on the $50 profit represented in your withdrawal so thats $5.

A small stakes cash pro can generate rake upwards of $4,000 a month. That certainly isn't less than 10% of his net profit for that month. The 10% commission is therefore much better value for the frequent player with a realistic winrate.

Maybe we could start a program where underprivileged who can't afford to pay a rake can have their fees absorbed by the other more well off players.

The answer is you cant.

Forget the numbers for a second.. you are paying money which in turn means you are not playing for free as outlined in your OP.

So once again you cannot play rake free.

if you are referring to betraiser, that is incorrect. it is based on net profit only. that might be the case for the other site i mentioned.

Assuming we profit we are not playing for free under this system, granted. It is still a much better system for the player for the reasons i stated.

Another benefit is that a losing to breakeven player will never have his money absorbed by the rake, so it is there for the taking by good players. This would surely be much better for the poker ecosystem in terms of keeping recreational players in the game longer without going broke.

I did and there aren't many games going. You would play there if there was traffic right? it makes sense to.

So my question to all serious poker players is how come we don't play on sites like this instead of those based on the expensive rake model? is there anything we can do to promote rake-free poker or is the marketing $ of the big poker sites too powerful in drawing all the recreational players? can we make recreational players more aware of the rake they pay and the alternatives?

I don't mind paying a rake. It's how the business gets paid to provide a service. If the service is good I'll pay for it gladly. I want the places I do business with to stay in business and prosper.

If the business is staying in business b/c of it's clients it's likely to cater to the clients. When money comes from a different source the service may suffer.

I think the biggest source of fish at micro stakes are tournament players moving over to cash games.

The biggest draw for micro tournament players are freerolls and prizes.

So a site that dosent charge rake isnt going to draw in all that many fish as it wont be offering them the freerolls and prizes they crave.

Because they don't represent much better value for the money. You get much better value for your money at a site such as Pokerstars because they provide much better security, much better customer service, many more chances to win money from freerolls, a much more secure underlying software platform.

Paying no money for a service does not qualify for better value in anyones dictionary, it only provides less expense for people who try to get something for nothing.

If you want to pay nothing for a great service, I want to hear about how you go to work 40 hours a week and take ZERO pay. I also want to hear how you order a taxi, and pay nothing for the ride, or send a package FedEx without paying the fee, or go bowling and not pay for the games, etc.

More people need to quit griping about paying for great sites that offer poker like Pokerstars, and appreciate what they offer for the money

5% over and over again. Usually comes out that most micro players pay more in rake than they make in profit TOTAL. A 10% fee on all profits at the end of your cash out is a way way cheaper deal.

There's 1 good reason we all play at stars/tilt/whatever. And its called traffic. Go play on BetRaiser and see if you can find a fish $1/$2 game.
