Exactly right - if you download the software from the .net site it only lets you use play money. Downloading the software from the .com site will let you play for real money.

The .net variants exist so that the sites can market themselves in places like the USA where there are legal problems with advertising real money online gambling.

If they are just starting out it can be a good thing, especially if they have never played hold em before. I am helping a friend in another state learn and we sit at the play tables. Now he is up to the freerolls and I am sure he will deposit soon.
Others just like play money, I am not really sure why, I guess it can be a fun break once in a while.

I started out playing for play money, but that became pretty boring after awhile. Now that I know more, I play the freerolls & am about to start playing with some of the funds I have won...not much YET...but I always play to win! And for the fun...he-he! I've broken through the bubble once & won't be satisfied till I win...and win...and win...LOL!
