What rooms are soft in Vegas?

I'm heading out to vegas again in a week or so and was wondering what rooms at the end of the strip are good. We will be staying at mandalay bay this time.

Last time we went was in December and I sat at a table in Harrahs. The table was downright tough. Specially so for a 1/2 NL game. I saw people laying down overpairs on fairly safe boards for example. Not something a total fish would ever do. I realize that it might have just been an unusually tough table, plus it was in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday which might account for the people there. I left after about an hour, up like $20 . I didn't feel like having to really battle aggressive players for pots.

Any suggestions for juicy spots around Mandalay bay? I have basically all day Tuesday free to play, my wife will be busy with her convention. NL of course, and nothing bigger than 2/4, preferably 1/2.

From what I have heard, during the weekdays in the afternoons are when the regulars are usually playing. During the night and weekend hours, is usually when the tourists hit the tables, which makes for some easy money

Try the MGM. Very good, loose action at times. By 'at times' I mean the table might be under control, but suddenly there will be mind-boggling plays/steal attempts. The MGM has anywhere from 3-10 1/2 NL tables even on weekdays, depending on the time in the afternoon you go. GL!

Try to find a "room" that is just in the middle of the casino floor (like, if I am remembering correctly: Riviera, Paris or Flamingo?)-- that way there are just tourists playing it like any other game, and not just people who actually went out of their way to find it.

I have played extensively in Vegas and have a Page that describes the rooms I like along with Game/Limit choices and my reason for liking the poker room.

One group I dont currently have on my list but may add soon (off strip locations) is the Station Casinos Group. They generally play smaller limits but all the Casnos offer a massive Poker Jackpot...and with the recent classy addition of Red Rock to the already High-End Destination Green Valley....I will soon be adding the whole group.

Hope that is helpful

Any chance you could expand on that a little please, bearing in mind that at the moment it sounds like total gibberish to me, thanks!

Sure, Station Casinos Group has several casinos in the Las Vegas Area (Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Texas Station, Palace Station, Sunset Station, Boulder Station, Santa Fe Station among others) and most have poker rooms that all share a massive Poker Jackpot.

In general they are lower class casinos.....with the exception of Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch which are in Resort Settings.

The JUMBO Hold'em Bad Beat Progressive starts at $150,000
Station Casinos is excited to announce the addition of the all-new Jumbo Hold'em Poker Progressive available at Palace Station, Boulder Station, Texas Station, Santa Fe, and Sunset Station, Red Rock Casino, as well as Green Valley Ranch Resort.
With 7 valley locations, it's the biggest Poker Progressive Jackpot in Las Vegas!
Two Ways to Win! The JUMBO Hold'em Bad Beat Progressive starts at $150,000
  • $45,000 is awarded for the Bad Beat Losing Hand.
  • $30,000 is awarded for the Bad Beat Winning Hand.
Every qualified Hold'em Player is guaranteed a minimum of $200 when the Jumbo Jackpot is hit!

Jackpot awarded when four - 10’s or higher is beaten by a higher 4-Of-A-Kind or better.

Thanks.

When you refer to "High-End Destination Green Valley", does that imply that there are a lot of high-rollers at Green Valley, or a lot of fish there, or another possibility that hadn't even occurred to me

I mean it is a departure from the casinos they generally own...which generally cater to the bargain minded customer

Thanks, I really appreciate the clarification.

I suggested to my wife (somewhat tongue in cheek) that for our holiday in June we should consider Las vegas, as well as her standard suggestions of Greece/Spain. I mentioned that I had used Las vegas as a base for visiting The Grand Canyon and Death Valley, and the food in Las Vegas was very reasonable, presumably because they hope that if you eat there you will gamble there as well.

To my amazement she has become really enthusiastic about the idea, having spoken to a few other people that have visited Las Vegas...
