What to do, what to do??? So I had 99 and I'm the BB, everyone folds, the small B who is the chip leader raises me. So I'm thinking he's trying to bully me out. I call, then the flop is QQ6, he checks, I check. Then the turn is a 3, he checks I bet, he calls, then the river is another Q, now in my gut I know he doesn't have the fourth Q, so I bet and he re-raise me all in, I think he's got A high at best or even if he has a 3 or a 6 I got him beat, so I call. He's got pocket 10's. I'm out! Was I wrong to call??? Sometimes this game drives you crazy!

Not enough info. He was the chip leader, but if had a decent stack yourself, the correct move is to fold. First off, his preflop raise followed by a check, would actually have prompted me to think he hit trips, and was doing his tricky little trap routine. In your gut, you didn't think he had the Q. My gut would tell me different, because that's exactly how I might play it, wait for you to bet. His gut told him you didn't have a Q either. And the 6 and 3 looked like very safe cards for him, as opposed to an A or K hitting the board.

it was a wrong choice to call, because yeah, we don't know what was your stack but still you have to play carefully against one tough player ... I think that if you want to play some cards you should choose opponents against to play some cards..you could have won , if you have gone all-in on the flop after he checked,or maybe not...you'll never know

Those sorts of boards, with 3 of a kind in the middle, almost always boil down to boat over boat. Rarely, the A hi takes it. Even more rarely, one player has the quads and is soooo happy with all the action. Personally, when I am the one with quads, I may let the others bet at it and, on the river, come in over them, if there are any parts of any stacks left. Sometimes I make a small, tentative looking bet. Sometimes I shove, because they don't expect me to have it. If you have a PP, and therefore have a boat, the question is: Do you feel lucky? This is the one time when I will fold a boat. Last edited by doops : 14th March 2010 at 12:06 AM.

By playing this pocket pair against the chip leader, you were taking more risk than your opponent, then you'd better check-fold at the river. He took you in his trap, and played very well (by waiting for you to be pot commited). I know it's always hard to fold a PP but here was the good moment to improve your skill...
