Trip Report: Binion's Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas, NV

If you have ever played poker in your life, and have visited Sin City, chances are you have played at Binions. The former Horseshoe, of course, used to host the World Series of Poker before it got too big and was moved to the Rio.

The famous faces adorn the walls of the Poker Room..Jack and Benny Binion. Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, Johnny Moss, Pug Pearson, and all the recent winners..they are all there. Reminding today's players that this is where modern-day Poker truly begun.

Binions has two separate poker areas. The cash game Poker Room has about 20 tables or so, spreading mostly Hold 'Em and a few Omahas. Not sure I saw a Stud game or not.

The tournament area is much bigger. There are several dozen tournament tables, as Binions runs about 6 or 7 Daily tournaments. The staff doesn't come much better than at Binions. Professional, knowledgeable, don't think I have ever seen a dealer make a mistake.

Grading:

Poker Room(s): A. The place is just dripping with history. Despite ownership changes, they know that Binions IS Poker and Poker IS Binions. There are often several tournaments going on at the same time, but everything seems to run very smooth. Buy-ins range from $55 to $120 for the Dailies.

Dealers/Staff: A. Professional staff and dealers make it an ideal place to play. Binions can be a very loud casino of weekend nights, but luckily both poker areas are away from the main casino floor and the college crowd getting plastered on cheap liquor.

Strength of Players: 6/10. I have played at Binions coutless times over the years. And while many of the players are local and generally very solid, they also get a lot of tourists. Texans in their 10 gallon hats LOVE Binions. I have personally found a lot of these Texans just love to go all-in on draws and enjoy giving their chips away.

Overall, if you are a Poker player and you are visiting Las Vegas, Stop #1 for you has to be Binions in Downtown Las Vegas.
