Tourney flow & dial up or broadband

Got my free $25 from Empire and decided to play a SNG as I had nothing better to do. Didn't have a lot of time so I selected a $5+.50 single table event. First couple hands went OK and the pace of the game was about right. From this point on, 2 players seem to get disconnected on each and every hand. The first timer would start saying XX has ZZ seconds to respond and when that timer ran out the disconnect timer would kick in giving them another 15 seconds. This was happening twice each betting round. With each hand taking an eternity, I was an hour into the tourney and there really wasn't much of a change in chipstack. Finally decided to win it or go out so I loosened up and played like a freeroller. Caught some luck but eventually (almost thankfully) busted out.

I'm going to assume that the 2 people getting disconnected every hand were dial-up users. I have DSL and I can only remember getting cut off once in all the hours I've been online. I guess my question is a) what do you do in this situation and b) should sites have some form of connection reliability monitor e.g., 2 disconnects and you're out?

I don't know where you play, but most of the sites I have seen will auto fold people that were disconnected. Then all you have to do is wait for them to get pushed out by the blinds.

I think maybe 3 dissconnects and your out,i have DSL to dave and have never been disconnected, it sure is frustrating waiting for them hand after hand, i only had dial-up for 1 month when i started and was ready to pull my hair out ( what hair i have left LOL ) and one day i said thats it, ive had DSL for 3 1/2 years with no problems, no more disconnects and its lots faster. I got Verizon D/S/L and for $29.95 a month its well worth it.>. buckster436

I have Dial-Up, and I hate my ISP. It constantly disconnects me for "inactivity" (no internet browsers open and surfing) without any warning half the time. Other times it slows down or freezes up. It's annoying as hell, especially when it happens during a hand you could've made a lot of money at, especially ona site where if you disconnect you fold, you don't have any chance of saving whatever you already put in the pot.

Anyway, done with that rant. Empire IS kinda weird about that Dave. I noticed that before too. Most places do just sit you out. I would've done the same as you and just loosened up completely. Sometimes I just decide I don't want to be playing in an Sng or tourney anymore, and if it was a low buy-in I'll just go, excuse the expression, balls to the wall in order to either get lots of quick chips in order to make my sit out last longer or just to knock myself out. Sometimes things like that happen, it stinks.

Glad to see someone feels the same as I do. It just wasn't worth the time it would have taken to play this one. Funny part is I started catching strange flops and winning with 8-3o and such. Actually took me a dozen hands to bust out...

Don't mind a slow deliberate game but with 2 minute delays on each bet it is probably still going on. Empire must not use the same disconnect rules as other sites...
