Tough Decision:

Played & won the $3 rebuy satellite to the $215 entry to the WCOOP NLHE $1,000,000 guaranteed (without even having to rebuy! as luck would have it). The problem is, that it is a rebuy, and I don't plan on rebuying in it.
I would love to win $245,000 with $6.30 invested (I did add on), but I don't know how likely it is. I am confident in my abilities, but I know that luck does play a big part of it.

Pick an option from the poll and help me decide.

Do what you like, but playing the rebuy without the means or inclination to rebuy is a bad idea.

So do what you like except for that.

I would say play the WCOOP tourny. With a large buy in of $200 there may be little rebuys or at least not quite as many as a low rebuy tourny. If you play the TAG you can make it deep into the tourny and possibly have a huge ROI. If not you could try for several entries with the T$ and have a rebuy or add on entry available to you if needed.

I can't vote for three options (well I guess I could with modhax, but meh), so I'm not gonna vote at all. Just add one vote to all the options that aren't 'play the rebuy' if you're really concerned.

I can vote becuase my advice isn't up there. I say play the 1,000,000 tournament and see how it goes. If you're doing well, rebuy. If your luck is doing too well, don't rebuy. Make the rebuy decision as you play.

Joose,

I'm not that real familiar with satellite tournies myself. I just don't enter enough of them.
Good luck in what ever you do decide.

Do the Heads up match. You're good at that so you should have a good chance of getting something out of it.

Since you played well enough to win a rebuy torney without rebuying, I think you could play well enough to go after the big bucks. Shoot big joose, you can do it. Congrats and good luck.

re: Tough Decision:

Did you get something like a Ticket thats only good for that specific event or did you get something like T$ that can be used for any MTT ? I don't think I'd play a rebuy MTT without any means to rebuy or add on.

I picked the re-buy, for the simple fact that there wont be too many ppl re-buying ,at least I wouldn't think at 215 a pop,and the prize is worth it.
So go for the re-buy, It only costed you $6.
If not the re-buy, and you have a good heads-up game, then the heads-up would be my next and final choice

I can't believe so many people are saying 'play the rebuy'.

It's so hugely -EV it's unbelievable.

Firstly, there will be many players willing to rebuy. Some more than others, and the best players around will tend to be the ones with the largest bankrolls and thus the ones who will be willing to almost infinitely rebuy.

joose, I'm sure you're a decent player, but the fact is many of these players will be better than you. Some a little better, and some a lot better. That's not meant in a deriding manner - they're better than me and probably everyone who's posted in this topic too. True, there will be lucky satellite donks lingering around giving chips away, but there will also be some of the best players in the world around too.

You are already giving up a skill edge, to give up a further edge against the 'better' portion of the field who are willing to rebuy is near-suicidal. If you're not willing to rebuy, you will simply not be able to accumulate a reasonable enough stack for the post-rebuy period (in most cases, barring a big hot run) to be able to compete. Playing against players who are equally or more skilled than you and who have you heavily outchipped isn't a smart plan.

Play the HU, sell the W$, go for the main event, just don't play the rebuy if you're not willing to rebuy, as it would be not too dissimilar from throwing money out of the window.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

If those are the options to choose from, and I didn't bother researching them at all, I go with the satellite to the main event. Out of all of the choices, I think that is the best shot to cash.

Most of us play poker for the same reason, and the same reason you played in this satellite. You want the glory in winning big bucks. Now, you've got a story already going for you in the fact that you've only invested $6.

Now, if you can sell the ticket for the buy-in, and you desparately need the $215 for bills or whatnot... sell it by all means as you've made plenty back already. If it's just "poker money" then by God you better gamble because that's why you're playing poker in the first place.

If you're going to gamble, enter whatever you feel most comfortable with and good luck. You've already created an experience for yourself; now go forth and, hopefully, create an unforgettable one.

Hell, even if you only barely make the money you've done extremely well for yourself.

As the W$ are transferable I don't really think it's much of an issue, personally.
