Tipping dealers at casino's

I just wanted to ask if any of you consistently tip the poker dealers at the casino's you play at. I NEVER tip the dealer and I believe the dealers at a certain establistment are getting a little irritated by this( they even said something to my parents, im 18). When i play poker in my mind im not gambling, I have a bussiness like approach to the game, so im not going to give up profit to someone that is already getting paid. What are your thoughts on this?

I tip the dealer after every winning hand, aswell as at the end of my session. Eh, dealers gotta eat too.

it depends.

if i raise and take the blinds + limp ins, im not going to tip the dealer for such a small pot.

if its a really small pot, then i usually dont tip.

if the pot is maybe $20+ then i'll put a chip on my cards and slide it toward the dealer.

if its a real big pot where my hand held up all the way to the river, then ill put on $3-5 dollars in tips toward the dealer.

and at the end of the session if i have extra chips. say i have all my chips in racks ($20 dollars in each rack slot) and i have $17 extra, then ill keep the ten and give the dealer $7. This is only if i had a good run and game up big, though.

You can get kicked out for tipping dealers??? I never heard that. But I would only tip dealers after the session is over, and its a winning session. They do get paid you know!!!

re: Tipping dealers at casino's poker

I did read somewhere thats its illegal to tip the dealers over here in England, but the table chargers are higher.

I can't confirm this cause the only time I have played in a casino it was self dealt anyway and no one tipped me when I dealt ;]

I've never heard of NOT tipping the dealer, as far as the US goes its a standard. You have to remember that most of the dealers I know of make under minimum wage like a waitress.

There is an ols saying in business:

You've got to spend money to make money.

If you are running your poker game like at business, consider tipping the dealer a business expense.

It's the right thing to do.

I tip depending on the size of the pot that I win. In the US it seems to be a standard practice to throw something to the dealer after a winning hand. I never go crazy with it cause they do get tipped by everyone on almost every hand but its nice to keep the dealer on friendly terms. They'll get the waitresses over to you quicker if they like you.

I always tip the dealer well at the end, especially if I've won a lot of money. If I've not done well, or lost, I still throw them a chip or two. My sis-in-law is a dealer out in Vegas and she said tipping is the norm from knowledgeable players. From the newbies or the occasional tourist, they never tip and that's usually because they're not familar with the gambling etiquette or they're tight with their few dollars.

i never tip a bad waitress, never tip a bad hairdresser, never tip a bad dealer. other than that, tip them if they've been good to you.

I'll second the last post. Dealers get paid jacksh*t most of the time--a lot like food servers, so they do rely on tips. But, if the money you make is so little at a table, it's not expected that you give some more up. But, if you've had a good table run, share a little with the dealer--it's good karma

I tip when I win at the end of play. When I play blackjack....can I say that here?...I wager my tip which gives the dealer some play and of course most of the time the house wins.

Hubby is a Blackjack dealer.

My hubby is a blackjack dealer and believe me when I say that is how they make any money. They don't even get paid minimum wage without tips, so the tips are what feed their families.
