Table transfers REALLY grind my gears!!!

So I'm glue eyed to my computer screen well into a freeroll or mtt and I'm starting to get a good read on the guys at my table. All of a sudden a dialog box pops up with, "You are now being transferred to another table."

At this point blood is rushing through me and I want to snap my laptop in half or yell at my lamp. I try to regain composure once I receive a new hand but this minor distraction really eff's up my game.

I understand it's a part of the game but can't they move the guys who have no chips around more frequently? Doesn't that sound fair? Why do they have to move the chip leaders? If one player has 1,000 chips and another player has 10,000 chips, it's speeds up the game to mess with the players who have 1,000 chips more often, no?

ummmm i think your going to have to get over it pretty soon. It shouldn't effect your game that much. When you go to a new table just adjust. Its the common thing to do

This reminds me of wehn i started playing in live MTTs. My very first game I recall turning to my friend and saying "hey that's not fair that they are putting this player with the huge stack at our table".

I prefer getting moved to the table with the chip leader. Makes me focused more on doubling thru him and taking that stack off his hands.

Big deal if that upsets you ...your playing the wrong game either that or go play a ring game you can sit at the same table for hrs with no interuptions. Seriously just part of mtt get used to it or dont play them cause it happens a lot.

Is it just me, or does Merge seem to do this (transfer you from table to table) much more than the other networks? It seems to happen so much there, it gets on my nerves too.

I have gotten used to it. It was just something that started to irritate me and I thought to share but I'm good now.

I was thinking some more about this and I'd say that Merge is the #1 "table changer" and #2 would have to be Cake.

It seems like UB/AP, Poker Stars, and FTP have much better designed MTT table balancing algorithms. I've always wondered about how they are programmed. Maybe the one on Merge just runs too often?

It's all random and I see no good reason why someone with more or less chips should get moved more or less frequently.

Personally I'd like to get moved to tables with more chips/chip leaders on them. It's easier to win a tournament when you have more chances to win higher amounts of chips in the same number of hands.

I've noticed that on the Merge network sometimes they are actually a bit slow on balancing/combining tables. Often the software lets a couple hands play out when there's 3 tables left with 7, 8 and 9 players. So if anything I'd say they move you less often, but really its all random and the same.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. YOu see 7+8+9=24 and wonder why the tables aren't 7/7/7 . Heck, I played an MTT yesterday (it was a regular 9 seat format) and we played one hand 4 handed! So if you plan ahead for this, you might be able to be a bit more aggressive and steal some blinds where others may tighten up too much.

Yeah, you might well accept that private freerolls are a crap-shoot. You just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best!

Indeed, it shoulden't annoy you that much! It has never really effected me, then again I play multiple tables so it's hard to get real reads at times but even times when I play maybe a couple of tournaments at once only and I get moved I like it. If you're moved to a table with larger stacks it becomes poker again anyway rather than pushing in the small stack vs big stacks trying to double up.

If it does effect you that much then I think you should either stop playing or just playing Ring games but there are constantly people moving leaving/joining the table all the time anyway! You shouldn't be ate up on it, or just play STT that way you can try read all the players!

Lots of times if you get to a table 1 or table 2 you can play the whole tourney without a change. You just mug everyone who passes through.

Ive had times when I was moved from LP to EP while shortstacked and it annoyed the hell out of me, but Ive also been moved from UTG to BTN while shortstacked. Don't let any little things like this affect your game

I played lastnight on a full table with 5 sit outs and 1 by 1, they
were moved off my table and replaced with in seconds.

Yeah, the only thing that sometimes tilts me about table moves is when I'm getting critically short, JUST payed the blinds to get the button, and then get swapped to UTG. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, I have to go out and stomp a few kittens.
