Table Chat

I think some of the conversation in these chat rooms are hilarious. Seems like everyone that is aggressively betting because they have a pair of 8's in the hole calls the guy who hits a pair of 10's on the river a "Donkey" as he get eliminated. Seems to me that everyone's a Donkey at one time or another because they hit a card that ultimately helped them win the hand.

Merlin333 put up an excellent post on these derogatory terms:

"Websters" Definition: Donkey

But you're right -- by the broadest definition we're all donkies at some point or other -- even those playing a very tight game will occasionally make an instinct play or decide to just gamble and make the hit. To the guy who just got his trips busted by a river str8, it sure looks like a donkey move... but it's nice raking in those chips.

Ban Donkey? But what if you are a Rancher of Donkeys and want to share your trials and tibulations with your fellow card players HMMM?

To the point of the OP though, the people who use that kind of language tend to the ones that kind of language would apply to the most - imo

Whats the point of putting a ban on a word if you're just going to find a word to replace it?

Should we put a ban on the word 'shark' as well? There is another term being thrown around. To be honest, im really getting tired of being called one all the time. I mean, come on, a shark? There are so many variations of sharks out there, cant you be more specific? Am I great white? A Tiger Shark? Hammerhead?

Please be more specific.

re: Table Chat

I agree, some of the chat is just hilarious. I find that just by sitting back a reading what they have to say I learn a lot about how they play and am able to use that against them at some point. It seems like some people just can't hold comments in and are compelled to rune their mouths about how others play. What I don't get is that every time some guy makes a bad call and sucks out, why tell them how bad they play. After all don't we want them to make those calls knowing that the math is on our side, so telling them is just helping the to improve their play so that next time he may not make that bad call just so he doesn't have to berated by that player again.

And have you noticed that everyone is an expert on the game right after they hit 4 of a kind? I saw a guy the other day that said, "that'll teach you guys to mess with me." Like he had it planned out before the flop.

I'm a donkey...

But the "experts" do crack me up.... I had a guy the other day in a SNG that was not even in the hand say to me "Thats what you get" because this guy and I flopped a flush, however his was a little higher and he won! I told him NH and then this guy jumped in.... So I shut off my chat before it got out of control .

This has got to be the most misunderstood and overused term in the game today. People get mad when they lose when no hand is 100% to win at any point until the river. People play hands poorly or have bad hand selections and in betting patterns and give great odds to outdraw them. A lot of tough beats happen because people don't understand how to play their hands or how to gauge the range of hands their opponents have.

People don't bet enough to make player fold and then when they get beat with a river card they start name calling and can't believe someone was even in the hand. I blame the 'minimum raise button' for a lot of this. I can't tell you how much I hate it when the blinds are 5/10 and someone rasies to 20 then someone else raises to 30...and so on

If you're going to make a raise then make a f#$%ing raise!!!

Yea it gets out of control sometimes but at least theres always the 'mute chat' option on most sites. Donkey is certainly an overused term, and as it turns out, most people are only mad at the Donkeys when their cards hit. It definitely sucks to take a bad beat to someone who had no business calling, but if they call you on that bet 10 more times, you'll win more often than not... so thats the point.

re: Table Chat

It seems that they are only donkey moves until you catch on the river, then it was a fantastic call. The chats can be a fun place to be at times, especially when there is a pot calling the kettle black......

Now we're gonna hear from all the pots about racial profiling.
