Hey guys, i always see the steps SNG and the buy in is 7.50. With the top two winning a 27$ ticket to the step 2, and third place winning another go at step 1.

Isnt it better to just play the regular SNG?

Steps payout (as % of buyin): 360% - 1st 360% - 2nd. 100% - 3rd.
Standard 9 table SNG: 387% - 1st 232% - 2nd 154% - 3rd.

So, when you come third, you still profit... although the payout as a percentage is larger in the steps? 820 vs 773. does that mean that you should be a better player for the steps to be more profitable?

I accidentally bought a euro step ticket when the upgrade to pokerstars 7 came along. I thought I may as well use it and won the first two steps and then on the third one (step 4 I think) I was totally out of my depth I ended up coming fifth and winning some euros. One of the players I was up against was a supernova who had a lifetime achievement of over a million points earned. Considering how out of my depth I was I was made up to come 5th. On the upside of this for 200 vpp points I got to play at a level I wouldn't normally be allowed to play within my bankroll... and into the bargain... I won a load of Euros... and into the bargain... won back a lot of the VPP that I used on accidentally buying the ticket.
Yes... I do prefer normal SNG's though as I'm not particularly that good at sng's the steps things are ultimately just a road to failure once I get so far in them but with a standard sng I get to see some ROI.

Yeah 80VPP points for step 5? Thats pretty cool...

Isnt the idea to make it to the next step and then either try move up, or just take the T$?

Congrats on the run though :)

Normal SnG's and steps are totally different. Besides which you can't really grind steps as you have to play tournaments with the ticket you can't exchange them for T$.

If you're looking to build a BR then for sure stick to normal SNG's, as you only build up tickets in step games.

You can't take the T$ with the steps, you can use them for mtt entries though at level 2 up....not sure if the euro one's have mtt's that correspond.

I wish you could take the T$ for the ticket once you reach a certain spot, I'd be banking up some 80 & 200$ t$ binkages by getting step3/4 but as it stands over the last 8 months when i did play them i played in 3 unsuccessful 215$ mtt's and busted a step3 trying to get a step 4.

Essentially the purpose and promotion of steps is that you can turn 7.5$ via steps into a 10k tourny entry, or like i did even get to play in the sunday million from a 7.5$. I was rolled for the $7.5 games but certainly not a 200$ mtt so it was beneficial that way.

I think Full Tilt run these too. I might have to go searching just to have a look.
Does poker stars have Step Tourneys at a lower buy-in than what you play.

No, the smallest one (that isnt for FPP) is a 7.50$ SNG.

You cant convert the step ticket into cash. But there is certain level (highest level) where the payout is cash but its a long long shot.

You have to go through many challenges. Its just like fitting yourself in a needle hole.

The first plataform that i saw that had these steps was PKR, the ones on pokerstars i think that they are for a really big tournament.

Never thought about the difference between the SNG and the steps, but always wanted to try myself in steps, drawn by the prospect. Thank you for interest ratio between the SNG and the steps. interesting food for thought.

Yeah, SNG are much easier to profit from I think. Because the Steps dont allow you to cash out (only recieve T$ for finishing higher up).
