Sportsbook and Players Only No Longer Accepting new US Players Just saw a post from FTR that a of may 1st sportsbook and players only will no longer accept new US players. From what I'm reading people that are already playing with real money will continue to be able to play/deposit/withdraw but no new US players will be allowed to do so. Are we about to see a mass abandon ship of online poker from the US?!

That doesn't make any sense. It seems like they may be trying to get a sense of urgency for US players to sign up. It seems like most of the advice around these forums are see where everything falls before depositing on another site. That hurts poker sites that accept US players since we're just waiting around and not depositing. Does no one else think that's a strange way to go about it? I doubt they busted pokerstars and FTP because some americans signed up to play in early april. I mean name another law that is illegal only for newcomers, but if you were breaking that law before the law was in place, that means you're still ok....

It is good to know they will allow existing accounts, I am glad I did not uninstall that one yet, lol |

Why stop getting new clients but keep open to already on??, not make much sense, unless they don´t want everyone get panic. (the "oh everyone is getting here better we closed for new players because we are so overwhelmed and can´t be so big" sound kind of fishy. I mean, if was because caution to not get eyes on them because of the troubles recently, with the closed to only new players are geting more attention. If was to get attention and atract more players before May1 not sure will work, even if they tell will keep open to existing accounts the fact they will close to new players make you have some trust issues about future there. I remember something like this happen way back (probably in the 2006), not sure if was Microgaming when doyles was there, they stop accepting new US Players but keep already open accounts to play, however that only lasted some time, then closed to all US not only new accounts, then Doyles move to cake. Can´t say same will happen here, but surely US PLayers should be careful and not have big BR there. For what i read this will not only happen to the Poker site, but also with the Sports beting area and casino. So kind of wird. Time will tell.

I can see in the not too distant future (maybe) US only sited starting to pop up. US ran and controlled so that the govnt can get their share of the money. And will probably be the end of international online poker. Kind of sucks , but thats what i see happening.

I think the theory behind it is that, as payment processing to US players is the problem a sudden influx of new US players make the payment processing an even bigger problem. If Merge skins want to keep their payment processing as legal as possible in the US their infrastructure has to be able to cope with it. Long before Black Friday I saw many complaints on how long it took get payouts from sites. No doubt this pressure for quicker payment lead FT, PS, UB and AP down the dodgy route they took. So really it makes a little bit of sense to try and "manage" the amount of new US players hitting a site. Not that it's good news if you live in the US.
