Somebody wants to leave...what do you do?

I had a situation that happened at a tournament I played last night. Player 1 wanted to leave so he went all in without looking at his cards. Player 2 and 3 called which but them all in. Player 2 and 3 had the same hand in the ned so they had a split pot. The problem was Player 1 still had chips left because Player 2 and 3 combined has less than Player 1 and Player 1 had already left. One player suggested that we (the table) split the rest. That's what we eventually did. My questions are what do you do when someone goes all in because he/she wants to go home and what do you do when there are chips leftover but the player left?

It's harder to post and fold though when it's live game. Tzkes time no one wants to waste doing that. Usually we just split 'em up at a home game. (I think you're talking about a live home game anyway).

Why would you split his chips? That doesnt make sense to me...I would assume that he would just go all-in again next hand until he lost it all.

Cause it would put the rest of the people at a disadvantage per chips.

Say there are 9 people at a table. Everyone has say 900 chips and the leader has 1800. The leader decides to go home and go all-in while one person calls. That person wins and now has 2700 chips. Unfair to the rest.. why cause putting in his blinds would spread out the chips to everyone. This also happens frequently.. the guy who goes all-in wins. Now all of a sudden he doesn't have to leave so quickly cause his chip lead has nearly quadrupled.

If the person does choose to go all-in as opposed to post and folding, he shouldn't say a word about it. If someone calls, they do it according to their hand not based on the fact that someone is leaving.

I see your point, but why would this person even say he is leaving in that case? Why not just say that they are all in each hand until they lose? I guess it would be kind of a mean thing to do, but they would at least have a chance of people calling and him winning some money before he leaves.

That's ridiculous. Go all in until you're out, or cash your money out and don't waste it.
