Sit and go Sitters

This topic seems to be a hot one lately. Esspecially at Poker Stars, people seem to get really angry about it. Me personaly do not have a problem with it, I would rather play my best poker than to hope the blinds ensure me a spot in the top three. Others disagree with this, I would like to hear others opinions.

I dont have a problem with it either, because if i had enough chips to insure me a spot in the money then i would sit out too b/c otherwise you could ended up getting rivered or anything else and lose most of or all your chipstack

i dont mid sitters in the beginning of tournys but i dont like when people sit towards the end of the tourny or try to stall to get into the money

sitting out is definately becoming a strategy that can frustrate some, as for me i doint mind it at all, even though i don't sit myself for extended periods of time, i still think that sitting is the same as folding every hand which is perfectly normal if you ask me.

Total crap. Sitters ruin the game for everyone who actually wants to play some poker. It is cheating, plain and simple. It's like finding a glitch in a video game.

"Yay! I can't REALLY play poker, so I'll sit and be assured of getting some chips. Look at my huge play money chip stack! I didn't have to play ONE hand to get these chips!"

Those who don't have the skill to play - sit.

sit outs are good for those who are in a hand. they are free blinds use them

I dont agree with Randog about it being cheating. You dont have any more advantage than anyone else. Like poettic1 was saying, just take thier blinds and use it against them. Another thing is how are you going to place first if you are letting your chips get blinded off. By the time you hit the money you are going to have to get lucky to collect all the chips to place in first where your real profit is.

As newf said, sitting out is basically the same as folding every single hand. It's not cheating. I've never sat out, but if someone's "strategy" is to fold every hand with their blinds up for grabs and you can't beat them, that's your own little problem. Hell, I've NEVER even seen a sitter make it into the money! I play on Absolute Poker and it's never been a problem.

Another thing you can do is if they sit, eat the blinds, usually when it gets to 4 say in a 9-10 person SnG and just before the money, someone at the table will bring it up, I know it wastes time but if you make it to final 4 I'ma sure we wouldn't want to go down before the sitout does now do we? As I have done in our own CC tournament but live and learn I guess

Sit outs have no skill.. how can sitting out prove your poker skills?
Now you've taken a spot that some other Joe schmoe could be playing cause he rather use his skills.

Afraid of busting out or getting rivered.. just an excuse cause you don't know how to play the game, only got to where you were at cause you got lucky by going all-in the 1st few hands..

I'd love to see someone do that in any other card game or sport...

I made the quarter finals and that pays.. so I am sitting out the rest of the way... Or in spades.. My team just needs 1 more book and we win, I will sit out...

I could see that now in a basketball game.. up by 20 with 30 seconds to go... ehhh we are going to sit out the rest of the game cause we know we are going to win anyway..

Sit outters never even place for the most part, most people just assume this is a strategy but for the most part it's just people having to do something else. I've seen it after double ups but those people seem to like to sit out than come back after like 10 minutes. One really annoying thing is not sitters but the people who have half a blind in chips 2 spaces off the money stalling, now that I can't stand.

It doesn't bother me too much. One thing that I think people who sit out forget about is that you get monster hands very rarely in a tourney. When they sit out they are folding AA,KK,QQ ect...There by leading to having to play worse hands. When you have a large chip stack, you have the abiltiy to wait for these monster hands and play them. Also to pick up pots ect..

Nowadays a rarely meet sit outers at sit and go tourneys.
But they could be really annoying, because someone will raise them when they are on BB, and you wouldn't know the time, when he raises because he really has a hand...

Why not use the skills that got you all off your stack to polish everyone else off or at least give it a try. Better to go out skint knowing you gave it your best shot rather than wait for everyone to kill each other then step up to the podium

It. Is. Not. Cheating. That's ridiculous. It's the same as FOLDING EVERY HAND. 63? Fold. 72? Fold. QJ? Fold. AA? Fold. KK? Fold. It's an advantage for the person sitting out as far as convenience only. In terms of playing, it's a disadvantage. If you think it's cheating, guess what? YOU CAN DO IT TOO! Fold every hand! Don't play those pesky premium pairs! Fold 'em.

The accusation that sitting out is cheating is completely retarded. I don't sit out ever, because I enjoy actually playing. I also know that it's to my advantage to play.

To say sitting out is cheating, claiming how these people "get to just watch other people knock each other out and get into money" to me sounds a lot like saying you don't trust your poker skills enough to outplay someone who is autofolding every hand. So they do it after they accumulated a big pile of chips? They didn't get those chips by sitting out. They got them by playing.

We had a quite long & involved thread on this subject a while back. Started by BBB if I am not mistaken. Of course it is not cheating, once you buyin you are entitled to play or not play as you see fit. My view in online play is that usually it's life rather than game strategy that causes people to sitout. If you think being at the table decreases your chances of winning what in the world are you playing for?

i believe i have posted this somewhere before on here....but yes sitting can make u money if used correctly.....when u get low in a satelite tourney 70-80 players and u are in top 5 in chips(preferably chipleader)...say 10 seats get paid a seat in the next tourney...so it is wise to sit out and let small stacks go out....gambling with small stacks can hurt...3 races against scared short stacks can be fatal...rather than let someone else gamble and risk it...when the blinds increase it can really get to a persons head and the make bad moves that turn lucky...eliminate that risk....sometimes ill sit out a complete level of blinds....its appears to me it would be about protecting your stack and capitalizing on your investment....

as for sngs....hell why not sit out after getting a fish to call you early in a sng....let the blinds get up to where the are worth stealing and then you can use your skill and stack to manipulate the table....sittin out isnt not any form of cheating




that actually works...ive used that very tactic many many many times....sngs and mtts...sit out and let some playable hands go by because they arent as strong as you wont to show your stack with

I like playing 9 man sit and go tourneys at PokerStars. I'm talking about the people who sign up for the game and never play one hand, counting on the game going quickly enough so that they end up in the chips without having to play one hand. Interestingly, a lot of the people who do this are the same ones time and again. The other day, I ended up at a table with TWO sitters and low blinds. They hadn't played one hand the entire game. I had to sit there and wait about 15 minutes for the blinds to go up and have them run out of chips.

THAT is bush league.

I'm sorry, I can't sit out to make dinner? Or I can't sit out to walk the dog? Or I can't sit out to use the bathroom? Or I'm sitting out cause my boss just walked in? Or,... I could go on and on.
People sit out for whatever reason. Unless you are standing over their shoulder and seeing why they are sitting out, play the game. Who cares if they are sitting out? I still have a chance at their chips when the blinds hit them and its one less player I have to worry about.

I don't sit and sometimes it does bug me when people do. I think if your going to sit you should still just press the fold button everytime, because if your sitting out your not paying attention and might miss some valuable information you can use latter on.

In the SnG's it does get a little annoying. In MTT's it is a strategy I've seen the pros use. I've seen Mattesau sit out for a bit after taking a beating, I've seen Ivey go for a walk after winning a big pot. Phil Laak once sat out for a couple of hours after a couple crazy hands. It is strategy sometimes and I think a very good one. Now people that win one big hand and sit out the rest of the tourney are annoying but if they do end up placing decently they are lucky.

If you have to make dinner or walk the dog, why sign up for a 9 man sit and go tourney in the first place? You're taking up a space at the table that might otherwise be occupied by someone who will actually be able to play. I could see sitting being used as a strategy in a 45 man tourney, but a 9 man? The purpose of playing in a 9 man (one of them, anyway) is to have the action go fast. Going heads up with someone who's been sitting all game and having to wait for them to run out of chips sucks. It's a way for losers to get cheap play money chips with very little risk. In money tourneys, feel free to do whatever you want. It's your cash on the line. But in 9 man play money tourneys, please don't waste everyone's time by sitting. It's almost like you get penalized for knowing how to play by going heads up with a sitter.
