Showdown

Who shows first? How does showing work? Some people wanted me to show my hands first, so I told them, no I believe you're suppose to show first. Either show it or muck it. He showed his rags while I showed my queens full. Only reason why I'm asking this is because this black man wanted me to show my cards first when it was on him according to deal. I need to have better understanding of this because knowing people's hands can be very vital and good information. If I showed my queens full and he mucked it, I wouldn't know how he plays and won't get lot of information about him. I was able to learn how he plays just from that round. I need to know how showing hole cards in showdown works. Who shows first? People left of button? Last person to call? Last person to raise?

i googled this once and found like 3 different answers lol... some say the first player to show is the first one to the left of the dealer, others say its the last one to bet, etc.

it seems we are not the only ones confused by this.

Both players should showdown at the same time if the game is in a tournament. It is important that if you think you have the winning hand you showdown as soon as the call/check is made otherwise you are in danger of slow rolling, which is extremely bad poker etiquette.

The reason why you shouldn't show right away when you have monster and someone all ins is because if you see what he had, then you can get information on how he plays. But if you show your monster hand right away, he can just muck his cards and conceal his style of play. Slow-rolling is pretending that you have a weak hand when you have strong and taking a long time to reveal your cards.

Even if I have monster hand, if it's my opponent's turn to show their cards, I would tell them to show their cards first. When it's my turn, I would instantly show it. That's not slow-rolling. Purpose of this is to get information from your opponent on how they play. Were they trying to bluff or did he really have something? If you get this information, then you can read your opponent and his style of play and aggression. That's why it's important who shows first.
