short handed ring games - call a raise with ... ?
6 player limit 1/2 $ hold em ( i think im acting like the same in NL Tourneys )
lets say you are in middle position cutoff or button , someone raises , you hold : A x suited( when x is a card below ten so A2 - A9 ) - i call A 10 offsuit ( i only call when allready invested in pot ) A9 offsuit ( i fold even when invested ) 9 10 offsuit ( i fold but call when i allready invested ) jq offsuit ( i fold but call when i allready invested ) K10 offsuit ( i fold in any case ) K10 suited ( so unsure - i call when involved in the pot ) jk offsuit ( hard to say.i usually call the raise when i invested ) jk suited ( i call ) Aj offsuit ( i call the raise and then im in trouble when the Ace comes ) Im asking because these are hands im not sure about the right decision . The decision is getting harder when u allready called one bet and now need to put in another . Tx for your opinions |

As always it depends on the player(s), but quite often I'd raise with some of these hands, (a) to try and take the pot down early, and (b) to gauge the strength of your opponents hand. If you have say AJo and 3-bet, and the 3-bet is just called by a player who isn't overly tricky, then it's likely you either have the best hand or are against an underpair (this is where notes on who raises with low pairs in what position are useful
). If it's capped you're usually up against a high pair or a higher Ace - if you see an A flop and get action you're probably beat, but I'll bet if checked to on an A-high flop. If the raiser is tight/standard and raising from UTG any marginal hand is an easy fold though. You overvalue Ax suited shorthanded. If I'm not calling a raise with ATo, I'm not calling it with Axs. Also if you limp preflop and someone else raises you're getting good odds to call with any mid-high connectors, though try to stop limping with them in the first place - fold or raise, depending on position and table circumstances. |

If you are going to play a hand like A-10 off, you might as well raise preflop when the action first comes to you than call the initial bet and then call a raise. If you are re-raised (3-betted) you can call and re-asses on the flop.
Your calling range should vary from player to player depending on the hands they like to raise with. Also, if you think you can outplay your opponent post-flop, your range might be a little bigger than normal. |
