Re-Buys

Hey All,
I tried a $3.00 re-buy about a week ago at Titan. Was my first one and man was it crazy. People go all-in with 8 2 and such. I like to play quality cards hard and fast, so when you get called with junk all-in and you have AK or KK or the likes watch out.

Lost many hands and found that alot of players have more money than brains. It really is irritating to play in a tournament like this. My way of dealing with multiple re-buy is to not play them. What a bad taste I got on just trying one.

Do any of you play these?
If so, how do you see it?

My one big tourney placing was in a re-buy. I finished 7th in a $2500 guarantee... I never used a re-buy or an add-on. I got lucky in the beginning and around the first break I was roughly 10th in chips. In the beginning I had a re-buy donk at my table that did your so-called all-ins with marginal hands; it just so happened that every time he went all in I had a big pocket pair or AK.

you shouldn't judge rebuys based on a $3 rebuy experience, but basically they are all pretty nuts before the break.
my strategy for them is tight as f*ck before the break - stricly AA KK QQ JJ TT AK and AQ. Even with TT i might not play it unless i know i can get it heads up. After the break, everything calms down a little, and by that time the blinds are up to 100/200 usually. This is perfect because everyone tightens up, and i can use my tight image to start stealing blinds and pots.

you're playing them wrong. gamble gamble early u gotta try to take shots to get a bigstack. play all PP's you can see for just 1 raise before the flop, suited connectors from the back, be aggressive with your draws and if you bust just rebuy. The times you make a bigstack and are able to go deep will make up for a few needed rebuys if you bust a few times in the first hour. Sorry, i just dont think trying to "hang on" until the break is the right strategy when you can rebuy and have a potentially dominating stack in the middle-late stages of a tournament.

Maybe judging this re-buy to quick. There is more money for a solid finish. From the response, looks like I need to play more hands instead of being so tight. My bank roll is small so to do mulitiple re-buys does not fit. But playing hands like 8 10 could work if your in the right position without someone all in.

I think the concept of a rebuy is ridiculous....playing tight and buying the add-on after the 1st hour would be a better idea than taking your chances on nothing early...

I think Clonie Gowan wrote a pretty good article about rebuys for Full Tilt.

Basically be prepared for the buy 2 rebuys and one add on.

Second rebuy just before break, if you require it.

I think rebuys are fine as long as you dont go on tilt and spend too much money. I have seen people spend way too much money rebuying because they stay on the idea of that they have spent so much already it is a good idea to keep rebuy'ing because if you place you get some of it back.

Im not a huge fan of re buys, i never enter directly but have played a few where i have qualified for them and the prize is something i would really like, WSOP place etc. I would say that for example a $5 rebuy should be treated as a $20 tourney, this gives you some play in that early manic stage where you can play good cards aggressively and just hope they hold up in the mayhem.

see people arent to bright sometimes, why they play the 1st hour like a freeroll? I dont know... money is money and those rebuys add up after awhile, so its there lost, but that is time to really get a big chip stack

I agree with WSOR.. i think re-buys are one of the dumbest things related to poker simply because people tend to get stupid. Also ive noticed tournaments last forever when playing rebuys and I just think it should be once your out your out and see you in another tournament!

Ok, heres my take on re-buys, its a multiple chance on life, id say you first play everything and take chnaces (dont be stupid). Make big bets a bluffs try to double or triple up and then tighten down keep in the back of your mind that other players are trying to do the same thing so be smart about it, but knwo before the first break you can always just rebuy and start over. I had so much trouble in rebuys when i first started playing them, now its not too hard its really a totally diff stradegy then a regular tourney.

I have been playing a couple $3.00 rebuys with the idea that it will cost $6.00 & add on. Still not placing good in these mtt's. The money is better at the end, but for now its freeze out for me.

I've only ever played live re-buy games though...
£10 + £1 ($25) with unlimited £10 re-buys in the first 2 hours...

on my 3rd game i look down at wired aces under the gun, and despite playing extremely tight (1,000 stack to start with, blinds were 50/100 to start with) i go all in and the guy with about £200 in front of him calls with 66, another calls with QQ and the other guy flops quad queens - went to 200 chips, then won a 9 handed pot with Q9 suited, then lost with AK against A4..

You have to play rebuys liberally. If you are going to play a rebuy tournament I would say that Jennifer Harman's advice is good to note.

Bring enough for 1 entry, 2 rebuys for the first hour, 1 rebuy and 1 addon for after the break. So if it was a $3 rebuy tourny. It would be $15 for the total play.

ahh yea, that sounds like a decent strategy... Though the quality of players in my local casino is extremely poor... I've lasted over an hour in all of the tournaments to date now...

My mate (no re-buy) was unfortunate on the final table last week though (after no re-buys, 3rd hour into the game) - some guy opens for 4xBB (8,000) and he looks down at AQ suited, and naturally goes all in for about 40,000 chips... the guy called with A4 suited and a 4 comes - The prize for 1st was about £1,000.

Which is another thing, if you get lucky in a re-buy game, then you can get some nice prizes for almost nothing!
