Rake in onlin play?

Do the online sites have a rake? If so what is it?

LOL!! I hope you aren't playing in cash games without knowing what rake you're paying, esp. if you're playing on those small, no-name sites. Entrusting others with your money without knowing what they are going to charge you isn't a good idea.

The answer is obviously yes. If you want to find out more about specific sites simply go onto their website it will have all the info including rake.

So I just looked at the rake at full tilt for a nl 2/4 and found this above. What exactly does this mean?

Also, do some sites have smaller rakes then others?

Let me reformat this question, as I'm still trying to learn about rakes:

# of Players 9

Rake $.05

Per $ in Pot $1.00

Max Rake $3.00

I assume the .05 rake is taken per round of betting?
I have no idea what the middle number is.
And the last one is really the only one I feel I know about: the maximum the table will rake per hand is $3.00

It's telling you they will take .05 for every dollar in the pot, or 5% of the pot, but that the most they will take from any one pot is $3. In other words, if you win a pot, you will pay 5% to the site with a cap of $3.

Another thing that I forgot to mention but that you probably already know: If you're signing up for a SNG or a tourney and it says "$2+.20" or something like that, the .20 is the fee that you're paying to be able to play in that event. So you want to think about what % of your money you are paying to play some of these games!

e.g. $1 + .25 means that you are paying a twenty-five percent fee to play in that tourney or SNG! People don't tend to think of it in those terms b/c the amounts are so small, but 25% is a LOT!!

Just my .02! (no rake!)

Not really that bad. MTT's are normally 10-25% (Full Tilt being one of the highest). You have analyize each one to see how it works out. For small field MTT's or SnG's - 15-25% is high, imo. In larger fields, it's time to make sure you make it deeper into the payouts.

Ring games 'average' 5%. Keep in mind, if you're not in the hand, you're not paying a rake. If you lose a pot, the rake comes from what you've already lost anyway. If you win, 5% with a cap is pretty standard, even for live games.

Man, this whole rake thing reminds me alot of the government!!! JERKS! Anyone want to start a site without a rake? Seriously. You think the money we'd make from the advertising would be enough, and the players would love us because there would be no rake!

At first glance, it sounds like 'no rake' would be a good idea. But then consider - just from an operating standpoint, what is the cost of an online computer system, connecting worldwide, 24/7/365 with as many as 250,000 players simultaneously logged into your server. This would crash even some of the world's largest websites.

This past weekend, Pokerstars gave away $300,000 in cash and tourney packages to just ONE TABLE, ONE HAND.

Yes, rake totals are astronomical, but so are some of the giveaways, promotions, deposit bonuses, etc, that they do all the time.

Goes with the old saying - 'you gotta pay to play'.

The vast majority of players pay little or no attention to how much they're paying in rake.

How many times have you seen two players at a table, and the hand is an obvious split pot, but one of them will go all-in and the other calls, then they split the pot? All that does is take money away from the two winners and make a bigger rake for the house, but it actually happens fairly often and rake ignorance is the only reason that I can think of for it.
