This is not true. It means that the person you are currently playing is logged in and playing via the PokerStars.net software. However that person may also have the PokerStars.com software installed. If so, then when they log in from the .com app, there is no star but they go back to the .net app and the star is back.

Also, it doens't matter if they registered via .net first or not, it simply indicates which software app they are using.

^^^ this isn't a guess, it's fact. Reading previous posts before blindly replying is a good habit.

Why would the person play .net only if they were a .com player too? Doesn't make sense to me.

The .net and .com software are two different apps. If a person has both installed (possibly having signed up at .net first and .com later), they would be able to lauch and play either one. I'm not saying these are the brightest lightbulbs or that it makes sense to keep playing on the .net software when you have the .com app; why they would do it wasn't the question, just what does the star mean.

Because then they can feel cool by registering for a tourny, then logging into .com so the table pops up, and they have a star on their name.

Interesting theory, but the star is only there when they are logged in to .net. If they then logged into .com, the star would not be there. It's a function of the app they are running, not how they registered.

Side note observation: Interesting to see so much interest on a tiny white star.

Sure, if you're playing with play money via the .net site. Again, it's not how or what you're playing, it's where (.net, not .com).
