| Pokerstars.net Hey guys i got a problem. as we all know in the US pokerstars pay to play has been slammed by the GOVT. my mother "plumsugar" had the orignial Pokerstars installed and being due to her disability pretty much used the Free play games to converse with the outside world. They had me upgrade their computer to WIN7. when we went to download the program they had all the Blah Blah Blah on there and we downloaded the program. everything set up installed and what not however. the program will not allow her to find a player, or display her pictures any more. PokerUS said that feature was taken out of the new program. so i went to my other COMP and copied all the instal files i could and tried to switch them but to no avail the program still won't allow access to find a player and upload picture. Somehow the GOVT thinks those features can allow gambling of which i see no way since the games are shut down for pay/play, however free/play is affected by this and she can not contact her friends nor know which room{s} they are in. so here is my dillemma. i need one of my fellow europeans to help us by downloading the install file for the UK or EU or whatever and we'll figure out a way to exchange it so that mom can contact her friends again and get her off my ass. | Yes, the .net software is brain dead. From PS POV, they are a poker site, not a social site, and why should they do anything to support a market they will never make another penny off of. This particular thing has nothing to do with the government other than they started the ball rolling. Tell mom she is SOL. Suggest Facebook. |

from what I gather about this .net stuff is if you uninstall the .com version of pokerstars you will not be allowed to go back to it, instead they allow you to use the .net version instead. I have kept the .com version since black Friday hit and so far I have been able to use the find a player feature and my player icon has been showing, so no issues there, its just that I can only play play money tables, but at least I still have a cashier window. My buddy got rid of his .com and he was stuck going with the .net when he tried to put it all back in and he has the same issues as you do, he pretty much stopped playing online now.

I guess I'm not understanding why you can't just go to the .com site and download from there. All it takes is a couple of clicks and you're done. Why go to all the extra trouble/hassle? Last edited by juiceeQ : 30th May 2011 at 3:58 PM. Reason: your =/= you're :p

Mr Maniacal the old versions have already been posted on many download sites. Google download pokerstarsinstall.exe and you will find the install files you are looking for available on many sites in many versions going back over several years. However I think when your mother logs in it will always try to autoupdate. Guess it is worth a quick try tho, Good Luck.

Am I understanding this right? If I'm understanding this correctly, I'm assuming you are based in the US and can't download the .com client, only the .net. This version of the client does not have the cashier or the find a player feature, or the player avatars. I have uploaded the .com installation file I found on my PC from a few weeks ago to 3 different file hosting sites. Download from one of them, run a virus scan (always do this when downloading files from unknown sources) and you should be good! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YEVAZWBV http://uploading.com/files/5f299be6/...rsInstall.exe/ http://www.fileserve.com/file/sSXHCJk If these links stop working, feel free to shoot me a PM.

He doesn't necessarily need an old version, but a genuine .com version. Since black Friday, US players can either DL the exe from the .net site (with crippled capabilities) or if they try to DL from the .com site, you get a message: "20 April 2011 - On 15 April 2011, PokerStars ceased providing real-money poker to residents of the United States and related territories. Real money play and deposits by US residents are strictly prohibited. [...] Players from the United States can continue to play on our site for play money only. New players who wish to create an account will need to do so using our play-money-only software, available at http://www.pokerstars.net. They seem to be doing this based on your IP address' location. I have ULed a .com exe from before all this happened, so he should be good to go. |

How do you keep the .com version? This message pops up when I try to log on, saying something about an update error, and to download the .net version.......I don't want that version! .....The lack of features on the .net, versus the .com...are so generic. I know I can't play for real money.....I just want to keep the features I am used to for 4 years now. Last edited by loveydovey : 2nd November 2011 at 3:12 AM.

re: Pokerstars.net this same thing happened to me awhile ago as well. I would simply e-mail support and just tell them you would like the .com version of the software back even though you realize it's only for play money. I had real money in my account at the time this happened to me, but I was told that it made no difference, they apologized for the inconvenience then sent me a zip file containing the .exe file for the .com version with instructions on how to install it, hopefully it works for you, good luck.

Thanks Curly.....I used the link JusSumguy posted, and it worked Hopefully this will remain, and I won't be bothered with their error messages any longer. But if it does happen down the road, I might just email them at that point. If they want people to use the .net version, they should make all the features the same as the .com....minus the real money play. Again, thank you both for taking the time to answer my post

Wow, lucky stumble into this thread. Thanks for the link. It was worth it just to get the "Find a Player" feature back and the hand histories was a good bonus. Although it's just sitting there, it's nice to see I still have money (I can't use) in the client and a good amount of FPP's. I'm not sure if I will wait the 10 years for U.S. legislation or get some cool swag with the FPP's, but I imagine I still could use them. Last edited by wsorbust : 20th November 2011 at 3:35 AM.
