Pokerstars Late Registration change

Haven't seen this in the threads yet, but was looking to see what others think about Pokerstars' change to allowing ONE FULL HOUR for late registration in their guaranteed MTT's.

I haven't noticed it in any MTT's other than their 'guaranteed pool' games.

Late registration is understandable in a few cases and for a few minutes, but this change allowing a full hour to take a seat is BS, imo. Stars is often a leader in promoting online play, but this is tainted with nothing but site greed. If they are having trouble with registrations meeting the guarantee, then it's time to change the guarantee, not the registration rules.

If some of you weren't aware of it, take a look at their lobby, check some of the games, and send Pokerstars support a message or comment.

Yeah, I'd say late reg for the first level is fine. But for the first hour? Isn't that like 6 levels at 10 mins per or 4 levels at 15 mins per? Isn't there some advantages/disadvantages of joining a game where the blinds have gone up and the stacks are bigger?

Yeah I really don't get it. These people are obviously going to be at a disadvantage so yeah, what's the issue?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The only real advantages I can think of are that a late, late reg A) would play an hour less overall and B) they'd instantly pop in near or just below mid pack without having to maintain that position for an hour.

Everything else I can think of are disadvantages. Big ones.

well, it's good to enter before the break. today I played $1.10 tourney and there were 6500 total registrants and 3100 people left just before the break.. Money finish started at place 990... Really easy to survive and get into the money, if you quickly double up after the break

Yea, this will be happenning. 1 hr is to long. If they reduced the amount of chips that they enter with then I can see it.

re: Pokerstars Late Registration change

I agree with what you are saying about being easy to make the payout. But on the same token, allowing the smaller stacks to enter the tournament greatly adds to the donk time.....I like to play super tight the first hour. And sure, they are at a disadvantage coming in late with a smaller stack. But when I only have three times the chips they do, finally get a big hand to come my way, get two new entrants calling me who haven't invested any time and have nothing to lose cause they are already on tilt or have an "M Ratio" to shove, its annoying (yeah that was a run-on sentence.)...The last thing I want to deal with is more of em coming in donking half my chips. I would much rather have the structure and know how many people are going to be in the tournament up front.

Well I played in the Turbo takedown and late registration was open so long you could actually buy into the money lol. That sucked big time.

What a big window.

I noticed this to. I'm new top this whole online playing, so I just figured thats how they all are. I agree if you can wait until and up to a hour to start a tourny why wouldn't you. Wouldnt this give you a slight advantge! Less time you have to safe gaurd your chips. I think there should be no late reg.

They might be at a disadvantage over the players who have larger stacks than the starting number of chips, but in effect they are sitting out for a full hour with no chip/blind penalty.

Exactly. This could happen quite often. Players put their stacks and buy-in at risk while late entries come in with full stacks.

As Buck mentioned, it's very likely you could bust out and buy back in again, and again, and again during the first hour. Makes it a hybrid rebuy with no add-on, not a standard structure MTT.

MTT's aren't really about 'safeguarding' your chips. The object is chip accumulation, but you shouldn't have to put your chips at risk for the first hour while others can buy in later with a full stack.

If they are going to leave it open that long, then the chips that would have been lost during the blinds should be deducted from their stack.

re: Pokerstars Late Registration change

umm (a) i'm 99% sure without checking that you won't be able to buy back in if you bust, and (b) buying in for 15bb when the average stack is gonna probably be twice that and there's still a ways to go to the money is not advantageous in the slightest, quite the opposite actually.

if you really think it's advantageous then there's nothing stopping you from late registering yourself, of course. let us know how that goes for ya.

I welcome late registers

Why would you want to give everyone an hours head start on accumalating chips, especially in a re-buy situation,An hour in to it the average stack has probably tripled and the chip leaders likely have at least 30,000 chips. Why would you buy into this situation, when you could buy into a fresh tourney and have the chance to be the chip leader 1 hour in.
I will think about this some more, but I dont think I will be complaining or joining late!

Edit:I dont like the effect on the overlay, however PS rarely misses on guaranteed tourneys at my stakes,so no net effect for me

Until the screen shot in post #12 (thanks Buck), I hadn't seen anything even remotely official, but had noticed that in the guaranteed tourneys late registration was available until the guarantee was met.

But with Dakota saying she was in a tourney where you could buy in late and be ITM at that point.....WOW, thats wrong.

To all those that think getting in late is an advantage, I'm sure you were all happy about the mess-up in the WSOP ME that allowed FP to get in 2 hours late right? Oh wait everyone was complaining that he couldn't get in and was at a disadvantage and rightfully so. If you have an edge in the field playing more will be an advantage unless obviously they let you register really close to the bubble.

1. It would be alright if you could buy back in after you bust within the first hour..... I see this at a lot of casino tournaments (ussually the daily tournaments)

2. They MUST blind the "late registrants" off, or else it is worthless. If the tournament gives you 2,000 starting chips and you have somebody start 59 minutes into the tournament with 2,000 starting chips that is NOT fair! Again, back to most casinos... say you play in a $100 buy-in with late registration and your table only has 7 of the 9 or 10 seats filled, the will put stacks in the empty seats and blind them off.... Only fair.

Once you are out you cannot re-enter.

Full Tilt has had late registration for some time now, up to level 6 I think.

I bought into a deep stack event 50 minutes after it started and was only 1000 chips behind the average and had 40 BBs.
Also, why does Phil Helmuth and other pros start the Main Event an hour late even while they take their blinds from their stack?
