pokerstars denies 6th place finisher in sundays 5milli prize money

the 6th place finisher in Pokerstars sundays big 5 milli tourney will be denied his winnings due to the fact that the "kid" is only 17 years old....so he went from cashing 500k to getting nothing....kinda sucks but they have that little 18 years or older disclaimer so he gets nada

Woulda been nice to try to prevent a 17 year old from opening an account in the first place.

So PokerStars just keeps it? I played in that event. Seems like they should redistribute the 500k amongst all us losers!

well the kid did try to have his dad say it was him that played but they verified through the kids twitter and facebook accounts that it in fact was him so he got denied....and as far as what they are gonna do with his share of "non-winnings" i havent heard.....but this was a bigtime FAIL

They have stated many times that they want to be consistant w/underage players. Not sure they always have been, but they have to make a stand somewhere.

He knew the rules and didn't follow them. Had to know there was a chance this could happen.

I would assume that the $500K would be distributed to the cashers.

Well, if I had played the tournament and was knocked out by him, or even played at the same table, I'd be knocking on PS's door and asking for my share of his forfeited winnings.

I don't have a problem with the kid playing at 17. I mean I'm breaking the rules playing from the United States too, but most of us have no issue with that. If the kid is from the states, in a few months we could send him off to get his ass shot off but don't you dare reach for that beer, young man. lol

as someone who is only 20, that is bullshit. If they give it to the cashers, that is one thing, but I would bet 100 dollars they just keep it to themselves. Same way that if I went to the casino and lost 1000 dollars they would be happy to keep me, but if I started to win they would finally check my id.

If we ever want the US to open up online poker then this kid gets nothing. That is one of the big arguments that opponents use that under age kids will play. PokerStars has to be very clear here that they will not tolerate under age players.

Well regardless of whether or not it is fair, the bottom line is that the kid violated the ToS, which he agreed to by signing up for the site.

Also I disagree that they are only concerned with the ages of players who need to withdraw. Just last year I had to validate my identity and I didn't have a huge withdraw pending, in fact I didn't have any withdraw pending. Besides, they made ~$900,000 in rake for that tourney alone, and they routinely make over $100,000 on that tournament each week, so I doubt they are that worried about hanging on to $500,000, just to have it.

PS perhaps I am just ignorant but I thought that the only thing illegal about online poker in the US is that banks cannot process transactions from poker sites?

He publicly announced that he was 17.. PokerStars knew about it, and had to do something about it.. especially in this day, because of all the politics going on with online poker right now. The politicians against online poker in the US could use this information as a weapon.

Kid should have kept quiet, and then told his dad (if he didn't know), "Hey, I just won us $500,000." I don't think his dad would be too upset that his kid was using his poker account after that. If dad did know.. then he should have just handled everything and told his kid to keep quiet in the chat.

Indeed what a joke. How on earth can they do that? He must of been able to deposit or something in the first place to play in the event. If he was playing from his dads account, then so what if he said "just won blahblah $$$$" He could take the tone of his dad won it so whats his dads is his sort of thing.

If indeed it is his own account then this is wrong on every level, they will of known his age and so on to start with and if someone was transferring him funds it's their fault for not flagging it up on their system. He shouldn't of been able to join real money games, how disgusting of pokerstars.

As for the money, I assume it will be distributed to among the money finishes.

It still disgusting though if it was his account and they now decided after he has played with real money before to now stop him taking home the money.

EDIT two: Just seen and read some more posts and does seem like his own fault now, silly idiot. The thing is, even if it was from his dads account and they had a little idea he the 17 year old was playing they might of probs kept hush about it, but the fact he has been blabbing his mouth about it they had no choice but to forfeit his winnings so they don't end up getting sued or something themselves.
