I've built a bankroll just from the freerolls there. I qualified in a HORSE freeroll, got 60 cents in the round 2, and I'm now up to $14.09 from playing microstakes (one 25 cent tourney to get me over a dollar, then the rest 1c/2c cash games).

re: pokerstar hubbles The only good thing about the Hubble is that Poker Stars lets you bank the tickets. I wish Absolute, Cake, Doyles, etc. would let you do that. I feel better playing the Hubble because if I can't make the game on Saturday, I can use my ticket any other day I choose.

The second round game is almost like real poker. Even if they got lucky and won their first time, people have at least 5 hours invested in getting there. More likely, the players have 40,50, 100 hours invested to get there. So nobody wants to donk out early. People play tighter, they are more likely to slowplay a good starting hand, and they can be bluffed out of pots. I think the best advice I can give you is don't get ladder-panic. If you survive to get close to the money, or get into the money, you can move up in position without winning hands, as people ahead of you get ladder-panic, think they need to win a big hand, go all-in, and go all-out. When you get close to the bubble, don't play any hand you are not willing to go all-in with, because the big stacks will put you all-in, thinking you won't call and go all-out so close to the bubble.

It's also good to know that the Saturday morning game is always Hold 'Em, and the Sunday game rotates between the other poker games, such as Stud, Omaha, and Draw. I stopped playing the Astronmer Freerolls once I won a stake, and I haven't been back - so I haven't looked closely enough to be certain, but I imagine the rotation includes every game you win a ticket in from. If I was an expert Badugi player, and I won a ticket at Badugi, but couldn't ever use it to make money playing Badugi, I'd be pretty annoyed.

re: pokerstar hubbles good job, way to go. i've won 3-4 tickets so far. but it's been awhile because they changed it from top 200 to top 72 gets a ticket. i'm about sick of freerolls though. there's very little learning in those. it doesn't matter how you play, tight, aggressive, it just doesn't matter, it's all about straight luck with those.

Congrats on making round 2 - I qualified a few times, but even if you cash you only get $1 or less if I remember correctly, so my advice would be to play aggressively and go for it! Havent played a freeroll there in a long time- just too many people and it takes far too long imho Best of luck though

I used to have 8 or 9 tickets banked, but used them up. Now it's back to the freerolls again. I just played in two at the same time tonight (no limit OHL8 and pot limit Omaha). Funny, they started an hour apart, but finished at almost the same time. Anyway, got a ticket in both of them. I just hate playing for 3 or 4 hours and not getting a ticket, so was glad it worked out.

I had a stretch where I played in about 10 of those. I got knocked out in the first hour 7 times, won a ticket the other 3. Still have them, all from May of last year, 17th, 28th, 30th. When I do think about using them it's always some second round game I don't want to play like Omaha.
