Poker Room (live) players?

I see very few posts regarding live play. Am I among a minority on this board?

I've tried online and just can't get interested. I love face-to-face action and
personal interaction. I'm not saying anything bad about online games or online
players, just that it's not my game.

I've got a few CD games I play to pass the time and I learned Texas Hold'em by
playing Amarillo Slim's original MS-DOS version. Talk about ancient, it was on a
5.25" floppy. (like comparing today's MP3 to 8-track)

But mixing it up in a cash game at a casino poker room is, for me, the best
action there is. Home games are OK, but I find myself getting greedy and I don't
like to bust out my friends - usually.

There are some of us, though we are in the minority it seems. Personally, I play both ways on a regular basis. In online poker you have to pay more attention to a players style of play, while in the live game you have to hold face and study your opponents. I find that in online poker it is very easy to minimize the table and work on a report or get involved in the tv, unlike live where you can't rest if you want to win. To me, live poker is the only true way to play. You simply can't imitate it. Don't get me wrong, I love playing online, but I am always afraid to trust the sites with my money, and its a less skillfull game online.

I am almost exclusively a live player, although I play home games, small private tournaments, and in cardrooms as there isn't a casino within a reasonable distance from me.

I did play online for a bit when it was in its relative infancy, but about 3 years ago I quit completely to focus more on my live game play. I recently put money back online and started playing sporradically (sp?) and I am blown away by the amount of dead money out there compared to when I quit. Its unreal. I can see being easily hooked on the cash available online.

I love the game of poker and everything about it, but in the end, the way to keep score is money, and there's too much of it online not to play.

I play live games every week. It's not just the gameplay, it's the characters you face when playing. It adds another dimension of fun and competition to the game. I prefer live games more than online games. The good thing with online game is there are more of them.

And more dead money, at least more than in the live games I play in.

I would imagine living near a casino in a tourist area would bring a new batch of suckers in all the time. Damn, I need to move to Vegas.

There are bar tournaments held weekly at a few spots in Knoxville, which is only 40 miles away from me. It's a pretty chaotic environment in those. Private ring games at places like the Elks Lodge and VFW, but they're hard to get into if you're not a member. There's a few sporadic home games around the area, but they're real nickel-&-dimers and not worth much more than a few beers & giggles. Nearest casino poker is eight hours away in Tunica, MS. So, number me among those who find their poker online, but who would relish the chance to play live on a regular basis. Not to be crude, but it's the difference between renting a porn video or hiring a call girl. One is a reasonable facsimile, but the other's the real McCoy.

Rammer , Simple solution, start your own game, ive done it for monday nights , it works a treat, keep the game honest and have a stiff enough buy in to get rid of the newbies. We've been running that one 6 months to build to this, for the first few nights we only had 5-6 players. But get a name for a good honest friendly, by the book approach and youll never look back. Great fun

Nothing beats a live game. I am with a small group (8-12) that tries to play every other Friday night. Buy in is only $20, so you don't have to worry about stealing too much from friends!

I am going to Las Vegas Sept 6-9. It is hard to settle for online games after a Vegas trip ...

Diablo and I are heading for a tourney in Marietta GA on Saturday at the local Elks lodge. Also found out that the Elks lodge here runs a Friday night game and I may check that out as well. My problem is that there are no local players around here to start my own game. When I lived in San Antonio, had a game at my house every Friday night for nearly 7 years - those were the good times...

I definately prefer live games compared to the online game. I do love the online game also, but face to face is awesome. A while ago diabloblanco responded to a post of mine and told me that live poker was way better than the online game, and boy was he right. I've been to the casino a few times now and I now haved my own poker club! Once a month, 2 games a night, $20 buy in each game. It is great.

Dave, go to the Elks club in town 2 weeks in a row and you will find a slew of players that will play at your house. Here is what to look for:

1. Best players there, you'll be able to tell this in two weeks. I asked the best players I could find to come to my house, it only makes me better.

2. Non Drinkers, Players that don't drink. I know it sounds wierd to ask people to your house, If you pick non-drinkers you'll have much less problems.

3. Non smokers, I dont smoke, this is a biggie for me.
