Firstly, sorry I haven't got around to returning the questionnaire, I could make loads of excuses but basically other things came first (sorry again). If I fill it out do you still want it?

Wont be able to make the tournament which is a pity but these things happen. I would have loved to have pitted my wits against you all.

Congrats on the opening day

Hi Tresco - no problems! If you have time to fill it in then great, I will add it to the results - if not, dont worry - and I look forward to seeing in future on the site!

Rude boys censored

Something amusing about CDP.

A couple of times, Xife and I have played together at the same table and joked around through the chat box.

The range of words that are automatically censored is enormous. Somebody has put really serious effort into listing any word even vaguely rude and banning it.

Very commendable, since it ensures nobody can go on tilt and cause offence by cursing other players, but it`s a real downer when u want to tell jokes.

Another aspect to that is how many foreign language words are also banned - Im a native spanish speaker, and therefore have been known to flout the rules somewhat when I bump into a fellow "spaniard", EVERY simple word in Spanish is banned, tu, en, es, el, ella, etc. etc. Ive tried the same words in two other languages, only to find the same results!

Also - type in "100%" and it prints **** - can anyone work out why? Otherwise Ill have to ask the network, and I think their getting sick of stupid questions throughout the day, that might tip them over the edge!

Actually I would love it if some sites out there could find a way to block all languages other than English as this is the general rule of poker both online and off (though I can't speak about little cardrooms in the middle of some foreign country). But by and large, it is English only.

Hmmm - Ive played poker in Vegas for a few years, and also play in a few poker rooms (B&M) locally here in Spain - and in my opinion - this isn't air traffic control we are talking about!! EDIT: and in the local poker rooms we speak english, spanish and french - and it doesnt really bother anyone

Ofcourse on the internet there must be controls on the chat functions, but to be honest if there were spanish or french moderators on any sites, you would 100% also be able to chat in those languages.

It will be interesting with Party Pokers newfound love for marketing to Euro consumers whether they begin permitting other european languages on the chat box. I think its very likely in the next twelve months.

I feel it is unreasonable to expect everyone who wants to play poker to have to learn english, therefore as the market grows and matures, I am sure we will have to cater to the non english speaking population.

ANYWAY - This is getting off thread!

I understand your point. And I'll grant you that if I walked into a local cardroom in xyz-istan, I'd expect they wouldn't be speaking English and I would not play there. And, as I've never played poker in a casino or cardroom outside the US, I'll even grant that other countries will possibly have rules for table speak. However, in the US, the B&M casinos will enforce English only at the table (some of them do it proactively, some reactively, but it is done). I actually got to see it happen one time, not a big deal really, but it did happen.

As for online, which is the most relevant to this discussion I checked out what I believe are two of the largest online sites...

1. PokerStars is very clear about non-English chat:
Non-English chat: We are aware that our players are from around the world, and that for many of them English is not their first language. However, at this time our policy is that English is the only language allowed to be used in PokerStars chat.

In fact, they are so clear about this that they publish the same text in eleven languages.

2. Ultimate Bet says:
Players conducting chats that are deemed inappropriate or abusive may have chat privileges revoked temporarily or permanently. This behavior includes:
• Chatting in any language other than English during game play (trivial exceptions will be made).

So your thought about moderators controlling what goes on will likely be limited to only very small, low traffic, or independent sites.

But I guess after typing this long response it no longer matters to me as I can't play there anyway. (but I figured I'd post it anyway since I took the time to look it up.)

Bonjour Nicoiko!

thanks for your interest, and the honest answer is that I am not sure, other than I also received the same error message in the network 4 or 5 times today, and it may have just been a temporary glitch.

Please try it again now and see if the result is the same, if you have the same problem, then just email me your details to martin@costadelpoker.com and I will open your account manually from our side.

Thanks and Best of Luck,

Martin.
