Personally, I have never had good luck with pocket J's or A's unless I bet a huge amount pre-flop. Then, if no one calls, all you get is blinds or if they do call, I generally lose to two pair. One day though....

They're horrible to be honest. I rarely win with them. Saying that I have folded them before and hit 2 on the flop but that's the way it goes. I often fold and 9/10 I would have lost had I stayed in the hand
If I am in a big tourney, nice stack, tight table, I will call or make a small raise, just to see the flop/get rid of the other players |

Unless I flop a set, pocket pairs rarely do me any good. It's amazing how many folks bet & call with connectors (suited or not) and eventually catch the straight or flush. I played in a lot of SNGs this past weekend, had pocket aces 6 times, and lost them all. I will generally call any reasonable bet to see the flop but if I don't improve I'll bail out on any stiff bet. Laid down pocket aces last night when the flop came K-K-7 and I had a bad feeling I was up against a set - which I would have been. Damn hard to lay down though...

One time in a tournament, I was serverly short stacked and needed to do something soon. Suddenly, I got pocket jacks. I bet the minimum to see the flop. A pair of tens came on the flop. I went all in. Everybody folded except for two players. The turn and the river were low cards. As it turns out, the two players each had a ten to make a three of a kind. Beware of pcket jacks, They might be cursed! LOL! It's still better than 2,7 or 3,9.

Pockey jacks are not that strong of a hand... It is the lowest face card and ur goign to need another jack to win , but pocket queens and kings may some time be the higher piar ...Another words pocket jacks are only good if lower card s then a jack come out on the flop

Hand order
Here is the order of starting hands.
AA KK QQ JJ AK(s) TT AQ(s) AJ(s) KQ(s) AK 99 KT(s) QJ(s) KJ(s) AT(s) AQ A9(s) KQ QT(s) JT(s) 88 K9(s) T9(s) A8(s) I don't seem to do well with pocket Aces sometimes, but I think it has to do more with your betting strategy. High poket pairs are extremely profitable, if you drive out most players pre-flop. In hands where only two people remain before the flop, you can expect to win with AA 67% of the time. With 9 players remaining before the flop your chances drop to about ~20%. GL all |

Don't buy that? Try this very simple, and only marginally scientific, experiment. Remove an unsuited Ace and King from the deck and lay them down for one starting hand. Remove a small pair (22, 33, 44) from the deck and lay them down for the other starting hand. If you like, deal out some other blank starters to represent as full a ring as you want. Deal the flop, river, and turn. Shuffle and repeat ten, twenty, thirty times...whatever. The more, the better. Now, how did the big singles do against the baby pairs? Hmmmm...interesting. There are many who disagree, as evidenced by some of the lively discussions we've had on this very subject. ![]() Last edited by RammerJammer : 03-06-2005 at 9:19 PM. |

I like seeing them just because it's always nice to see a high pocket pair, but they do scare the crap out of me. If the flop has a Q, K or A I am afraid to stay in if anyone bets large. That's always scary with any pair, but obviously, the lower the pair the more chances to lose.
