Please explain MTT types

I was scrolling through the tourneys listed and there are a couple I was unsure about.

1. What's a heads up MTT?
2. What's a shootout MTT?
3. What's a double shootout MTT?

I'm guessing the heads up is just that, 1 vs 1, winner moves on. 128 - 64 - 32 - 16 - 8 - 4 - 2 - winner, so you'd have to win 7 straight heads up matches to win. Wouldn't this take a really long time, and possibly have long periods in between just waiting?

1) you got it; it's just a series of heads up games where the winner moves on.
2) like a MTT, but instead of them evening out the tables as people are eliminated, each table plays until there is 1 person left, and then and only then do they even out the tables. Just learned this one from nate
3) not sure :/

Never heard of a heads up MTT but I would think you are correct.

Shootouts are when you have to beat everyone at your table to move on to the final table. No table balancing, you play until one is left and then move on. Double, triple shootout you have to win 2 or 3 tables before moving to the final table.

Edit: Your fast Chuck! Beat me to it but I guess I answered the double shootout question.

re: Please explain MTT types

in theory there's no such thing as a "single" shootout, at least where i play. double is as small as they come, having 2 rounds. you can have triples with 3 rounds (like they did in the WSOP this year) and quadruples (like pokerstars does on wednesday nights), but a single in theory would have only one round, and could just as easily be called a single table SNG. Just a matter of terminology. chuck explained it right otherwise.

oh, and if you want to look at it that way, a heads up tournament is just a shootout with only two players per table

Whether you play down to 1 person in a shootout MTT depends on the site. Party Poker for example play down to 3 people per table.

ps, they take an eternity. Not uncommon to wait 45 mins or more between you finishing and all the other tables finishing
