Playing multiple tables

I have started playing 2 tables at once, and I'm starting to enjoy it. I don't get so bored having to fold multiple hands in a row when i can play a hand at the other table... Does anyone have any suggestions on playing this way? I haven't seen much of a drawback aside the fact that i can't watch the way other players are playing as well.

I too play two games at once,i've set up another screen so i can have one on each which makes it a lot easier. Keeping an eye on your opponents is important as you may miss some mistakes they make. Remember to just keep your concentration up. And remember which game is which,lol when i first started i called a massive bet at the wrong table and wiped out my stack!

The most tables I've played is 5 at one time (5 $1-$2 MTTs on Stars on weeknight a while back).

THe key for success is to play tight and aggressive, you don't want to be involved in 5 hands at the same time allthe way to the river. If you multi-table you are basically giving up some observation of other players at the tables and you have to play the cards more than the people (especially if you are on 4 or more tables at once).

Most "pro" online poker players will have between 4-10 tables going at once, usually the average number is about 8.

Normally when I play cash games I open 2-3 tables or 1 cash table and 1 tournament, etc.

Is this true? 10 tables at once? Surely you'll keep being timed out cos you cant act quick enough before next screen pops up.

I know of several online players who 8 table like its their job, because it is lol.

They have a special monitor set up to have 4 tables on each screen all at an equal size right next to each other.

Most of these online "pros" such as MrSmokey1, ZeeJustin, Gank, among others usually do 4 tables on Stars and 4 on Party.

I know ZeeJustin (Justin Bonomo) 8 tables $215 NL turbo SNGs, he just recently completed 1000 of these over a couple of weeks and made something like $38,000.

And what if you get to 5 head to heads at the same time!!!???

I have had up to 6 running. It was a bit much. 4, I can handle, and I almost always play on at least 2.

I know you're not lying, but I find this hard to comprehend! EIGHT - TURBO!!!! SNG's ! I still don't see how he would have enough time to act (especially when they got to short table), let alone look at cards!? I suppose it's a case of volume over skill - $38K in 2 weeks is a hell of a lot of dosh, but it's still only 17% of investment (I reckon I turn over higher than that percentage wise on SnG's - would be much higher if i wasn't suffering from acute seconditus).

What sort of time does he play? - i'd love to see him in action.

He is on usually during the day, last night I saw him at 2am CST on Stars, he was 5 tabling the 5/10 NL tables.

He usually plays 4 tables on Stars and 4 on Party, just from my own watching experience.

Also, he will throw in the occasional $1000+$30 and $525+$30 turbo SNGs.

O and I forgot to mention...hes only 19 years old...

He has final tabled at a European Poker Tour Event and also cashed at the 2005 PokerStars Carribean adventure...look out for him when he can play in tournaments in the US legally...

just read his website,one thing that strikes me is how cocky he seems. I know a good poker player needs to be confident but this kid is unreal (and he is a kid at 19). Good luck to the guy,i'm gonna try and find him and play a few games with him,will report back soon.
Also i strongly disagree with this following quote from one of his poker articles:
During 75/150 blinds, a player 4 off the button opened for 450. He had a stack of 5500. I called on the button with 99 and a stack of 5k. The flop came KJ8. He checked. Very few players will check this flop with a hand that hit the flop. It is very likely that he has a pocket pair lower than jacks, or AQ. I bet 700 on the flop. The fact that I had 99 here is irrelevant. I will make this play with any two cards. This is a very standard hand. Basically, when someone raises preflop and checks a flop like this, it is usually because they missed and are afraid the flop hit you. My read was correct and he folded.

I would often check if i hit this flop to allow the caller to bet into me so i can re raise,how about you guys? He does seem to make some very good plays but this one stands out to me.

I usually play multipe tables, sometimes 3 at a time, which can get very confusing and I sometimes fold a good hand on one table when trying to fold a bad one on another, which really sucks. There is the drawback that you mentioned about not being able to see how others are playing but I usually get bored like you. I would just suggest not playing more than 2 tables at once

Ok so giving up on the aspect of paying attention to oppenents and distractions(multiple tables). Is taking away from your game because you learnt nothing about any of your oppenents, you've can't catch any of the online tells, and you've missed a golden opportunity to knock an oppenent out because he per-say is a loose aggresive player. He bluffed hardcore but since you didn't have the time to concentrate on that particular oppenent and see his style of play. Then one has to constantly open the windows themself because you don't want the tables opening them for you. You go to hit "call" on a table and another table(window) opens as you go to hit call but you hit the "all-in" instead. So you made sure the automatic table is clicked off so you have to manually open the windows yourself. Constantly clicking this or that window.. making the game also slower(remember other oppenents are waiting) while you are on another table making a decision.

Defeats the purpose in my opinion of actually learning and mastering the game. You are just playing cards then for the sake of playing cards.

I have to agree, I used to attempt to multi-table when i was starting out, but unfortunalely i end up giving loose maniacs too much credit for good hands.
Case in point last night heads up against a maniac on pokerstars $6 turbo S&Go, and after watching this player hit flop after flop with the worst hands, he decided to re-raise every pot, so i waited, got pocket queens, put in min raise, only for him to raise all in, with Q-2 HA HA. I would never have spotted this if i was mulit-tableing !!

Playting Multiple tables, teaches players to have dicipline because they can fold many hands in a row, knowing very soon they will get some good hands.

I think more then four tables will make you loose track well that is me. I lost a big stack one time because I called a all in bet at the wrong table and folded my KK at the other one. So after that I limited myself to four. Now maybe after time I will try more. But I think it is up to you to set your limits with what you feel comfortable with.

I can handle 2 alright but find three or more i am not able to conentrate like i should. I can not imagine 10 at once. These must be the players that tick me off by taking so much time.
