... and don't push too hard to get 50... it takes a little bit, but you'll get there.... read a few posts, take your time and give some insight into the thread... quality in post and not quanity...

You guys need to make the drive to Mountaineer or Wheeling Island...since we are not allowed to have casinos in Ohio!

I'm from Dayton, Oh and there are a few games here in town. In fact my friend is starting a $20 buy in MTT at Norton's Bar on Feb 10th hopefully to run every week. Wings has a $20 game on Tues. I believe and run $10 Single table Sit N Gos on Sundays. Many of the VFWs and Legions run games on various days. As for Reese's games, they are legal because it is a "charity" game and as such, most of $ is supposed to go to charity not prize pool and payouts to $ invested is minute. Just let me say " Buyer Beware" in those games and realize what you are getting into. The first 2 I mentioned are basically home games with no rake ran with permission at those locations.

I have heard some bad things about the Reeses games but never had any
problems there.Ive heard that he has house players that try to push you off of pots and things of that nature.Ive also heard he was arrested for not giving the money to charity but Im not sure about it.

As I am unwilling to slander Mr. Reese by saying his game is crooked, I will only admit he has had some legal problems with some accusations skimming and such. The Feds shut down his "charity" games for awhile but he has had a few since so I assume they were unable to make their case against him. As for me, I don't play them any more strickly because so little of the $ is every distributed in the prize pool in the big MTTs and the rake on other games is outrageous [supposed to be going to charity;) ]. If you want to play live in southern Ohio, I'd stick with the home games.

Imagin: Mountaineer is in Chester/Newell W.Va. right in the upper part of the panhandle of WVa. Wheeling Island is in Wheeling, WVa, downstream from Montaineer about 30 miles. You must be 21 to enter both poker rooms.

Sorry. Infinity has closed as of Sat 05/09/2009.

If you are still interested in playing in the Columbus area Gemini has always had the best action in town. www.geminiplayersclub.com

Really? 70-100 people. I've been thinking about joining but always figured place would be way small. Might have to check it out after all.

Friday through Monday their hours are 1PM to 6 AM. First game is supposed to start at 2PM but their will be players waiting for a dealer to arrive at 1! On Mondays (busiest night for some reason) there will be 4 ring games going by the time the tournament starts at 7PM. Most fields lately have been in the 60 to 70 range due to the nice weather. Every night there is a tourney at 7. Almost always 2 tables minimum. Once a quarter they have a $250 buyin tourney which gets between 70 and 100 players also. Ring games are mainly 1/3 NL They almost all play like a mid to big 2/5 game. They do get some PLO games going but not too often. Just have to request them. They also get a 5-5-10 (mandatory straddle) going usually on Mondays. No limit to the buy in. The 1/3 has a 300 or 70% of the big stack max buyin. Plenty of action going there.

Infamous1020 the only thing I can tell you is that currently the best option in the Cleveland area aside from driving to the casinos in WV or Detroit is the charity nights. They are held around Cleveland but one constant location is the Nautica Chairty Poker location on the west bank of the flats. The NE Ohio hotline number for charity poker games is 216-676-4500.

The gaming clubs in central Ohio recently were the subject of a negative and not 100% accurate TV news report. Here is the link for that http://www.myfox28columbus.com/shared/newsroom/top_stories/wtte_vid_1616.shtml
This "report" (if you want to call it that) was one sided and was instigated by the local "Vegas Nights" group. "Umpire Gary" who was so concerned about the kids is part of that group as their armed security. Slight conflict of interest as he probably gets $1000 each time his kids get $7000.

There are at least 5 clubs decent clubs in the Columbus area.
Gemini is probably the best club. This clubs has the best action, is probably the best run as far as adhering to their stated rules. One thing everyone needs to remember at any place where you play poker is that the rules are not hard and fast. Meaning that rules are to keep the game honest and fair and are not to be used to take advantage of situations by angle shooters. Mondays are still their best night. They also get a pretty good 5/5 No cap buy in going.
A new club in Pickerington is pretty good from what I have heard. Nice atmosphere and nice players. Buckeye Card Club
EPC or Eastside Players Club is good for action but can get a little obnoxious at times... the players that is.
Evergreen Players Club is very nice. Not tons of actions but they hold nice tournaments, players are very nice and club is pretty decently run. This is a good place for very timid new players. Laid back atmosphere. Now that is not to say the other clubs are not good for new live players. You should never worry about the clubs because the floor personel in the club will do their best to accomodate you and make you feel comfortable. You should never be "scared" to go and play.
A new club is just opening on the north side of Columbus. Columbus Sports Club. Like Gemini this club is stressing game play in general and not just poker. This makes is a very fun and well rounded club. I have not been to this club but based on recommendations by players I know and trust their judgement this club will quickly grow to rival Gemini. I look forward to joining this club.
Word out on the street also has it that the club on the west side of Columbus is still operating. I will relay back any news I hear.

Of course there are still the Vegas Nights and though I sometimes have negative things to say about it, it can be an enjoyable place to play Limit Holdem.

Next best options are to drive to IN near Cincy, WV ( recomment Mountaineer for tournaments ) or Detroit for the 3 casinos it has. There are a few other casinos out there but they are a bit further to travel to such as Indy Live near Indianapolis.

This is all in relation to central Ohio travel of course.
