NO-LIMIT RING GAMES
At times we all want to believe the words we read...especially if we think they have been written by either a trustworthy individual, or an expert on the subject matter. Yet, allow me to moderately 'stir the pot'...because I have good reason to do so. My belief is that quite a bit of what you've read to-date by the published, professional, no limit hold-em players needs to be taken with a 'grain of salt'...they write with a number of very specific purposes in mind; the least of which may well be the revenue that will accrue to them as a result of retail sales. And, while I'm convinced that they all have a sincere desire to impart knowledge about the game, it is their reasons for imparting that knowledge that causes my concern...or, their reasons for not imparting selected knowledge that causes a greater concern. You need to recognize that their life styles, their major source of income, are the direct result of luring deadmoney, donkeys, wannabe's, and well-heeled donators to the game. The greater the number of these individuals that they can attract to their domain, the more money they are all going to make. So, give some thought to the question...would they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs? Think about it...put yourself in their shoes. Logically...it just wouldn't make sense. The key here is to understand that the materials they write, for the most part, are true...for the most part, are sound...for the most part...are valid. But, it's what they don't write that causes the 'stir the pot' and 'grain of salt' commentary I put forth above. They can't possibly have any interest in sharing their unique, private, guarded, and self-enriching secrets to the game...why would they? These secrets provide their livelihood. If you were in, or are in, your 'accumulative' stage of life...the period of time where you acquire assets for future use in retirement...would you share the unique way (assuming it to be unique) in which you are accumulating? Maybe...but, if sharing meant that your accumulating was going to come to an abrupt end, or even a gradual decline, your answer wouldn't be "maybe"; your answer would be a very loud "no". Therefore, the conclusion I make, and the conclusion you should be making, is that they will not risk the death of their goose...they will not tell all in their writings; for, if they did, the reader's game play would become as good as the writer's game play. And, then, the goose would be dead...then, the golden eggs would disappear...then, the accumulating would stop. My circumstances, however, are far different...my professional career of 38 years is over; I'm retired. And, while I would not describe the wealth accumulated by my wife and I as overwhelming, the fact is that there is no possible way for she and I to spend the interest, dividends, and pension we receive annually...no less the principal. I seek no financial gain from any of you, nor am I looking to bring you into my domain with any self-serving ulterior motive. Truthfully, any, or all, of the profits generated by these articles, to be turned into a manuscript, will be used to fund child welfare programs throughout the world. Therefore, I am simply extending to you an offer that carries with it the intent of satisfying your desire to extract money from the game; to become an 'advantaged' NLRG player. And, if you are inclined to be a benefactor, if you wish to add a few dollars to the worthy child welfare causes that my wife and I support, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction...plus, I'll be extremely grateful for your generosity, kindness, and concern. But, I've got no goose that's going to come to a rapid demise, I've got no 'accumulating' that's going to meet up with a traffic sign that reads 'end of the road', and, nothing that you learn from me is going to cause any lifestyle changes for my wife and I. In time...I'll share with all of you the screen names I use to profit from the very same donkeys, donators, and wannabes that the professionals have brought to the tables. And, while giving you my screen names allows you the opportunity to avoid playing against me at a NLRG table, it also gives you the opportunity to do the exact opposite. Candidly, I would almost insist that you choose the former...I see no reason for you, I, and others to be targeting the same individuals; and, more importantly, we ought not be targeting one another. Consider this...if six of us are at a 6-handed table, and all of us are playing with similar, or duplicate, strategies, then the winner of every hand becomes the 'advantaged' player who is dealt the most playable cards; this would serve no purpose...it would only accrue benefit to the poker web site hosting our game; in the form of rakes taken from the pots that the six of us manufactured. In the end, the goose is meaningless to me...I don't need the eggs; yet, without question, the goose is far from meaningless to the professionals who write the no limit books; quite simply because these are the books that bring the deadmoney to the game. Also, I need you to comprehend that the goose is likewise meaningless to you...mostly because you'll never get access to their goose, through their writings. Instead, what you will get...from me...is a money tree; a tree that forever sprouts new and larger green currency. That tree, the money tree, is what the entirety of these articles, in their composite form, are about; and, the way to pick the fruit from that tree is what you'll be learning page by page throughout the next 9 months. This is something you'll never learn from the professional players who have authored the bulk of the available 'how to' books. They can't possibly have an interest in teaching you how to pick the fruit; they think of it as their fruit, their money. OK...if you've signed onto the precept I've written in all of the above, then you've got to empty your mind of a considerable amount of the materials you've previously read about NLRG play...you've got to empty your mind of a considerable amount of the materials you've previously learned through your tourney playing experiences...and, you've got to empty your mind of a considerable amount of the 'conformity thinking' you've previously been prone to do. You are essentially dropping the 'toy guns' you've used in an old game, and developing an 'arsenal of weaponry' for a brand new game...you'll need to have an open mind. The fact of the matter is, whether you want to believe it or not, you've been the donkey, the wannabe, the donator, the conformist; now it's time to become the winner. And, I'm not putting pen to paper to make new friends...so, if the last sentence caused you any offense, I don't care. My printed words are solely intended to teach you how to win. Where, by the way, the easiest way to win is to play against the donkeys, donators, and conformists who've joined the game believing "I can do this"...primarily because of what they've seen on TV, and, subsequently, because of the 'dare-not-tell-all-for-fear-of-the-goose's-death' books that have them thinking they're as good as the professionals who authored the bound tutorials...even though these professionals have hidden the real tools; the tools that will allow regular crop harvesting from the money tree. Now, since we have all come to recognize that this game is about the money tree...and, it's fruit...I think we should come to understand one of the things that this game is not about. And, that one thing, more than anything else, is ego...certainly not the ego that I possess, nor, I'll hope, that it ever be about the ego you possess. This game is about money...that's it; if you're in this for anything else, you likely don't belong in the NLRG environment. However, I'll recognize one exception to this...if the personal reward that comes to you from having mastered a challenge of extraordinary proportions represents ample compensation for you, if the money you accumulate as a result of that mastery is used for worthy charitable causes (or, for unworthy decadent decendance to the pit of indecency...lol), then you do belong in the NLRG environment...and, I would encourage your involvement. P.S. More poker news from Michael Vadnais for you, an when it comes to me then i'll give it to you. SHERMSTICK ![]() |
