| no gap one gap connectors+suited hole cards general hello, i'm new to the forum and was wondering if someone could provide some insight on some questions i have. F Paulsson says elsewhere on this forum that, "No-gap connectors (6-5) are 33% more likely to make a straight than one-gap connectors (6-4). That is quite a difference, yup." First off, is this true? And more specifically, does anyone know how much more likely it is to flop an open ended straight draw with no gap connectors as compared to one gap connectors? I know that 98 needs 107, 76, or J10 on the flop and 108 needs 97 or J9 on the flop, but i'm not that confidant in my math skills from there. i'm basically wanting to know just how much more in strength no gaps are preflop compared to one gaps. I once read that their difference in starting strength was minimal and so they were grouped together in discussing suited connectors. Also, I once read in a "not so great" poker book that hole cards being suited only increases the hands' chances of winning by 3%. Anyone know if this is true? I was looking at rankings of the 169 possible starting hands and was surprised to see how high Arag suited and Krag suited fared. Anyway, thanks to anyone who can help. |

| Connectors will make a straight by the river in 9.4% of cases, semi-connectors in 7.8%. That`s the readout from my odds caculator, but it is very much a theoretical result. Many such hands won`t go to the river. You pretty much answered your 2nd question already. The connectors can make a straight draw on the flop 3 ways, the semi-connectors two ways. So, the connectors are 50% more likely to flop an open-ended draw. The "extra" value of suited cards depends greatly on the strength of the higher card. If you hit an Ace- or King-high Flush, you have a monster hand, but an Eight-high flush could be a trap hand which will see you losing a huge pot to the opponent who makes a higher flush. |
