nice wrinkle on bounty tourneys Ultimate Bet now has what they call "sniper" MTTs, where 50% of your buyin goes into the prize pool and the other 50% is a bounty on your head. It makes for smaller prize pools but if you eliminate just three opponents you've made a profit without having to finish in the top 10%. What do you guys think?

Likewise - welcome Dunno what to make of that format, to be honest. I suspect the optimum strategy for them would be pretty skewed, as a lot of people would be looking to just knock players out rather cash in the traditional manner. I'd probably steer clear of them but I imagine they'd suit certain players quite well.

interesting actually. At first glance it would seem since all the other players would mostly be playing loose the optimum strategy would be to play tight. But knocking out a player is so huge in this because not only have you added to your chip stack and collected the bounty money, but you now have a bigger stack which you can use to knock others out. If you sit back and wait for a hand, when you finally do get one you'll most likely be outchipped and not get a bounty. Of course depending on the prize scale it could be good strategy to play it like a normal tournament, ignore the bounties, and work on getting the most money. The fact that it's a bounty would mean that your POV of ignoring bounties that players would be playing incorrectly against you. What would make it even more interesting is if we could assume other players actually took the time to examine the game theory behind it and use optimum strategy instead of "omg I has an A and if I win the hand I get half my buy-in, I'm arrin". But since we all know most players don't think it through much, we can almost guarantee that they will adjust TOO much and play too many hands too aggressively. So I still think that the optimum strategy would be to sit back and play normal poker, although that would change if you were playing against good solid players.

I've played three or four of them and find that my opponents play pretty conservatively until they've built up a good solid stack. When they outstack someone by 2:1 or more then they tend to loosen up in calling all ins or climbing the ladder. One factor is that the bottom prizes in the prize structure are really small--less than the buyin+entry fee in some cases--and even the final table prizes are not exactly huge, since 50% of the prize pool goes to bounties. This makes winning the tournament far less important than it usually is.
