I sat down at a 6-seat, $5 Omaha NL SNG quite by accident this morning (I thought I was registering for Texas Hold 'Em NL, silly me). Didn't realize what I had done until the first hand was dealt and I had four pocket cards staring at me. "Crap! That was a waste of $5", I thought. I haven't played much Omaha--just a few ring-games and play money tables--and never did very well because I couldn't remember to just use only
two hole cards.

So as a general rule I tend to steer clear of Omaha completely.
But then I gave myself a little pep-talk and decided I would do my best. I dug down in my brain and tried to remember some nuggets of wisdom that I've picked up here at Cardschat, like: two-pair is nothing special, etc. Oh, and reminded myself continually that I only get to use two of my pocket cards! lol I played semi-aggressively, really thought out the possibilities of my hole cards pre-flop before deciding to play them, and did not try to bluff this time around.
I am happy to say that after a few trial and error hands that had my stack looking something like a see-saw, I was able to take what I had done wrong in those hands and fine-tune my play....and took 1st place! And had fun doing it! Was nice to play something a little different, and actually play it well.
It certainly helped boost my spirits, considering that I lost THREE heads-up challenges yesterday...anyway, thought I'd toot my own horn!
