Moving up the stakes ladder: bankroll question

I know this has been posted before but i searched and can't find it.
I was wondering what the requirements were for playing at certain limits.
I think i remember that for limit, you should have a BR of approximately 200 or 300 big bets. Can't remember NL though....was it 10 max. buy-ins?
anyways i think it'd be a great sticky if we could make a chart or something showing what limits you should be playing at with respect to your bankroll size.
Also we could slip what SnG/MTT tournies you should be playing at aswell. (I believe it's that your bankroll should be at least 20 buy-ins large?)

For nl from 20 buys in to 45 buy ins.

Limit 200 is fine, although 500 is preferable.

Sit n goes, 20 is a weak bankroll 50 to 100 is preferable

Don't forget if you're a tight player then you need less of a bankroll. The more aggressive or loose your style is the bigger your swings will be and so the bigger you need your bankroll to be.

very good point. The wilder the style, the wilder the swings...
I think this would make a great sticky for a guide fot all the noobs like me who don't know.

I'm assuming you want a chart similar to limit chart. It would be no problem, I just need to know buy in requirements. I am guessing it would be 100 to 250 BBs from what has already been posted. Let me know and I will add it.

Well in SS2, there's a chart for buyins and it seems like your buy in should be roughly 40 or 50 BBs
As for your BR it doesn't say, but generally for NL your bankroll should be more than it would be for Limit (~300BB)

Sit-n-gos you want 30 buy-ins ($5+$.50 you want ~$165)

Multi-table tournaments: you don't want to spend more than 5% of your bankroll on one tournament (Don't enter a $10 tournament if you have $18 and expect to keep a bankroll)

Seems to be in line with the info already here except for the tournaments. If I can get some kind of concensus, I can fix the charts (if they need fixed).

This might help a little (only for cash games though):

As for tournaments, I've heard time and time again that generally the best way to manage your bankroll is never to have more than %5 used up for a buy-in.
I think it's safe to say thats the absolute minimum you need, so 20 buyins min.

For bankroll requirements, you need to consider if your bankroll is all you have for poker, or if you lose it all, your just going to reload.

For playing with your poker bankroll and that if you go broke, your quitting poker or getting a job to start a new bankroll, I would recommend:
500 bb for limit
50 x max buyin for no limit games
50 x buyin for sng's
100 x buyin for tournaments

If you go broke and your just going to reload, I would recommend:
250 bb for limit
25 x max buyin for no limit games
25 x buyin for sng's
50 x buyin for tournaments

You want to make sure you don't feel the loses, yet some people may need close to 1000bb for limit so losing doesn't put them on tilt or effect their play. Those are the guidelines that I've been using, but everyone is different. Find your comfort zone.

No need for that, this image will hopefully feature in an article in the near future (if AI is ok with that).
