Mount Airy Casino Review

Mount Airy Casino opened it's table gaming today, including it's poker room.

The room is small, about 10 - 12 tables. 8 of the tables were 1/2 NL which I played.

THe poker room is very close to the entrance, so no long walks.

The competition gets a 1/10. THese people were so atrociously bad, I've never seen more min raises preflop in my life, followed by a min bet on the flop. Very easy to push off hands, it was a good day for me. Unfortunately I had to leave after 5 hours of play, but ended up winning $230.

The dealers get a 2/10. Aside from the 2 dealers who were able to handle the game at a respectable speed, everyone else was horrible. I really was not pleased with playing 15 hands in 3 dealer shifts (1.5 hrs) The floor was called to my table about 100 times. Each dealer had to count the rack in front of them which seemed to be a daunting task for most. I don't know if this is the norm in other casinos as I've never noticed a dealer counting it before they sat down to deal their shift, but these guys made a project out of it. NOt to mention the amount of misdeals and flipped cards, it was definitely amateur hour today. I can understand it's most of these people's first time dealing poker, but they choked hard. I was in vegas last week and to come and play to this was very difficult, I felt like getting up and leaving after about an hour.

Chips are paulson's and they are nice so they get a 10/10. The only problem is having close to $500 in whites on the table, in a normal 1/2 game there are maybe $80 in white's in play. THis slowed the game down horribly.

Room gets a 3/10. THe tables and chairs are comfortable, but not much space to walk through tables. Also they have one cashier window, so cashing out or buying in could take a while.

All in all, Mount Airy has kinda let me down in most parts of this. I've been excited about this for months as it's only an hour away, as opposed to Atlantic CIty being 2 hours. But I think the extra hour drive may be worth it, however Mount Airy is full of fishies, which will probably keep me coming back twice a week as I'm only working weekends right now.

Most of the dealers at the MGM would do this when they sat down but it only took them about 15 seconds to finish. If their tray was getting light they'd have a chip runner get them some more with the cash that was in the tray.

The max rake was high $5. I didn't notice the criteria for $5, but on a few big pots that wen t to the river I noticed a red chip in the rake circle.

They said they are going to be having bad beat jackpots, but not for another week or so, they will have early morning tournaments, but not for a couple weeks because they still don't have tourny chips.

From where I am in North Eastern NJ, it's about an hour and 10 minutes. So nYC maybe an hour and a half.

Good trip report. Shame the casino was a bit crappy. Least u made some easy $$$. I would love to go there but shame im from the UK >.O

The $5 rake is the norm for live. Probably 10%. Expect another dollar to come out of the pot for bad beat. I prefer rooms without the bad-beat jackpot, even though I have won one for a significant score in the past.

BTW google says 89 miles from NYC

My dad lives 15 minutes from Mt Airy and I lived there for about a year after I moved from Las Vegas.
I heard they were going full gaming but haven't seen the action yet.
I go to AC a bunch but I have to check this poker room out

Thanks for the info Herbish,,,I'm heading to Bethlehem, the Sands, this weekend, says they have 12 tables also, I imagine it will be the same.

Wow, I guess I was totally out of the loop. Bethlehem has poker as well.
When I was living in Stroudsburg for a short time, we use to play the Free Poker at the bar on Tuesday nights.
It was cool and we always used to talk about getting poker in the state of PA.
Now , it is only 15 minutes from my dad.

Went to sands for the first time last week. Didn't expect anything more anything less. Couple good dealers but on average they were pretty slow and couldn't split a pot fast enough. i went on a weekday so there was not a wait list, but i hear that gets pretty bad on the weekend. All in all wasn't to bad of an experience, im still waiting for Parx to get their poker room up and running.

There is NO smoking in the poker room
