More players from Israel?

Just recently on the Merge network (PDC, Carbon, Wasspoker etc) i've noticed that there are suddenly loads more Israeli players than there were. Does anyone know why? Was there a change in the law there? Or did PDC/Carbon have a big advertising push there. I'm just curious as you used to see the occasional player from Israel but recently their numbers have increased massively?
Has this been the case at the other sites?

There hasn't been any changes in the laws, and there's no advertising at all. It's just that the game grew quite popular here these last few years.

I've not noticed that at all. But after almost 2 years, I'm still waiting for an answer as to why there are 1 - 3 Romanians at every table, with the rest of the Eastern Bloc filling in nicely (i.e. Bulgaria, Slovenia, Hungary).

Romainians, I like their style of play, push big, bluff big, I just sit back wait for a good hand and rack in a big pot

I'm totally with you on this one. At Carbon, I have to adjust my play like nowhere else. Ever notice though, that once 3/4 of the players are gone, there are no more Romanians at your table?

Oh it's really noticeable. On Merge anyhow. Almost always 1 or 2 every table these days. Some of them must've been using Romanian poker books to learn.... aggressive....just a little.

Hold'em in Israel (especially Tel-Aviv) is huge!
we still can't arrange a big (national) tourney because of the law,
but home games and small clubs are spread...
As U mentioned, there are also many players online - FTP, PS, and the local fav - VC poker.

dan (and other Israelis ..), So online poker is legal in Israel? That is great news to me; I was under the impression that online gambling sites were blocked in Israel. Also that's great that there is a live poker scene there too. I always thought backgammon was the bigger game in those parts. What about Haifa? What are the best cities to live in for poker players?

It isn't legal, and there are no legal casinos.
But there are lots of people who play home games with friends.
I play a weekly tournament with about 7-10 friends.
Most poker sites allow access to Israeli IP addresses, but deposits and withdrawels are a headache.
