Basic summary, some donkeys at Pokerroom 'mistakenly' set a $20 tourney as $19k guaranteed. Said tourney only gets 200-and-something entrants, they let it go ahead and then take money back from everyone (yeah, having paid it out they take it back from their accounts) who cashed because 'it shouldn't have been a $19k guarantee'.

Having read several pages of that, Chris, I think we should remove Poker Room from our bonuses section and not be seen to endorse the place.

Imagine if one of our members signed up through our link and got shafted like that.

Man, that's unbelievable! I agree we should cut ties with them and not endorse the place. I hope those who play there will wise up and leave. No more money for the thieves.

I just read many of the posts on that forum, it's over 80 pages now which is unbelievable. What I can't believe is that anyone still plays there. Not only did they take back money from players accounts but they are unresponsive not only to this issue but other problems as well. I also understand that when they banned US players they just kept the money in their accounts. How anyone plays there is beyond me when there are 100s or other choices.

Reminds me of the story about the guy who entered a raffle for a racehorse. When the winner went to collect his prize, it turned out to be an elderly donkey with 3 legs. He complained so they gave him a refund. PokerRoom are doing exactly the same!

Their systems suck too - often going down / cutting out randomly. See this as an example:

They finally (after 3 weeks and relentless bad-mouthing over numerous sites), decided to back down and refund the money.

Their owner's attitude towards it sucks though.

After the tournament, our staff discovered the error and attempted to correct it by removing the sum that wasn’t supposed to be there. At the time it must have seemed like the natural thing to do, just like they would have added the same sum if it instead had been missing from the prize pool.

We do realize that there are downsides to this solution, and have since reconsidered. We have paid these players in full as of today January 3 and have taken the necessary steps to prevent a situation like this from happening in the future. We would like to sincerely apologize to our affected players for the inconvenience this has caused them.

Personally speaking, however, I must say that I'm a little disappointed to see so many being eager to jump on the bandwagon of hate, without first investigating the facts or background of the situation. It seems that some people just want to read the things that support their already formed picture of "the big, bad corporation ripping off the little guy". But things aren't always that black and white in reality.

Over the almost 8 years that we have run PokerRoom.com we have made mistakes, a lot of mistakes even. But I can honestly say that we have never deliberately ripped off any of our customers.

Pokerroom sucks.

During peek hours, pokerroom blocks me out from their software since I'm listed a 'play money' account.

I've cashed a couple of $1.10 tickets in freerolls there and wanted to play them out. I couldn't do that because I am usually at work when the site is open to 'play money' accounts.

Now I tried to deposit, but could not do so. You can't even make a 1st time deposit during peek hours. Even your web account is blocked! How dumb is that? Omg

My immediate thought was that something's wrong about this site.

Founder or not, this guy is an idiot without a real business sense (based on reading his letter). I'll promise you that regardless of his standpoint on what would or wouldn't have been stated in advertising, his attorneys told him that the fact the tourney contained the name and charged a fee to sign up was grounds enough for legal action to be taken against the site. They weren't going to risk that in any way as it would be cheaper to settle the issue and live up to their false claims.
