| Local MTT adventure Someone local was putting on a no limit Hold'em MTT for charity so my brother in-law and I went and plunked down the $40 + $20 rebuy and sat down to play. There ended up being about 40 people and they paid down to 6th place. Started talking to the people at my table and chatting about playing poker, where we've played, what tournys etc. and I told them I had played in a tourny out in Vegas and finished 11th so they started calling me Mr. Vegas. (Which was a HUGE advantage, I played tight aggressive and when I overbet the pot everyone folded, I played the table image perfectly) First hand, someone at another table goes all in and gets knocked out. We'll call him Donk1 for future reference. The rest of that table consisted of Donks2 through 6. So 20 minutes goes by and there's a low murmur about the room... People start leaning into each other and whispering.... What could be going on I thought? Soon afterwards all 6 Donks including Donk1 are back sitting down playing again. They had been playing with a PINOCHLE DECK and got to start over. At the first break I had doubled up, and they condensed tables. My brother in-law was moved to my table, as was the worst calling station I have ever seen, PLUS she had more chips than me. This lady was a real work of art. We even had to tell her how many and what color chips to put in the pot every time, for blinds and her calls. Apparently she felt she was pot committed anytime she was in the blinds, and was absolutely unable to fold anything. I didn't catch any hands but my brother in law got KK, isolated her with a decent size bet, (she called) then bet half her stack (she called) then put her all in (she called). He flipped over the KK, she showed K3 offsuit that hadn't matched anything on the board.... Second hour I didn't catch any hands at all, stole the blinds once on a dead bluff but that was it. After the second break the table were condensed again and blinds went up again. 30 min later still no hands, blinds were now at 1000/2000 and my stack was only 5400 so I took a shot and called a shortstacks's all-in with a QcJc, he flipped over QQ and I gave most of my chips to him. Few hands later I went all in with AK and lost to a K4, out in 9th place. Brother in law ended up at the final table, he raised the pot 3xBB with KK, Donk1 (who had been at the pinochle table remember) was in the big blind, RERAISED him, brother called. flop comes all low cards, Donk1 goes all in, brother calls. Any guess what Donk1 was betting with? . . . . . . Yup you guessed it, 6 8 offsuit. Catches runner runner for a straight. Brother in law eventually goes out in 5th. The final 4 wereonk1, Donk2 and Donk3 from the pinochle table, and one guy that was so loose aggressive he lived off of blinds all day. I was happy with my play except for the brutal all-in call mistake. It's funny after I get rags for 90min anything remotely mediocre looks soo much better to me. I need to learn to not panic. |
