although no limit is a great game online i feel that when i play limit i can make more money in the cash games. i played 2 hour's in limit at a 0.05/0.10 limit game and turned a 3 dollar buy in to 8.50. i know that thats only 5.50 in 2 hours but i like playing small limits I'm not ready and nor is my bankroll to tackle the higher limits i was just wondering for some feedback on this and well just a opinion that limit is a better and easier way to make money.

I started on limit and it was my cash winning game for a long time. I have been trying to learn no-limit, but it is TOTALLY different. Playing limit, I increased my original deposit by 17 times. I surely have not done as well playing no-limit, but I am still learning. :icon_porc

I have been doing much much better at limit recently than NL. I think I'm gonna start playing limit as my main game.

I believe that a very good winrate for limit poker is around 3 Big Bets/100 hands. Im not sure if you were multitabling, but in 2 hours you were up 55 Big Bets, which is very unsustainable Im sure. For me, it would be way too much of a grind to try to build a BR playing .05/.10 limit poker, winning 30 cents/100 hands, but if you like it, keep playing. Maybe FP will have something more to add

I don't multi table. If I want to risk more, I go to a higher limit. It takes all my attention to record who is a fish and who is a rock on one table. I was playing $1/$2 and $2/$4. :icon_porc

Limit

I like to mix it up here and there. I usually play limit in the casino due to the simple fact that the closest one to me only has limit. I don't know why they only have limit - it just seems like a matter of time before they do expand to NL though. Recently I've traveled a little bit further to get some NL play, just for a change and to ensure I haven't lost my feel for it. It really is a different game though.

I'm in the same boat with playing better in limit games though. I really can't explain it as of yet. I'm up a few hundred in limit over the course of the summer, but I'm only about even or just under even for NL.

Oddly enough though, I only play NL when I'm online. I never actually tried playing limit, except when I accidentally signed up for a SnG thinking it was NL. Definitely should think about getting into limit games online. Not really much of an online player anymore...but when I do get back on UB/PokerRoom/FTP, I really should evaluate if live success in limit can translate into online success as well.

Has anyone made a successful transfer from live limit to online limit and can confirm the viability of making the switch? Thanks!

If your are playing live poker limit is the best in my opinion for lower stakes games. In most $1 $2 nl live games I have found there are to many ATC's playing to make it worth while. In limit you limit your risks and all you have to do is play your odds. If you just focus on odds you will always in the long run make money. At least this is the case for me. I have made a average of $100 a session playing limit this way for 2 years now. Sure its boring but its money in the bank. If you can find a higher stakes NL game with no state made pot cap these games might be more profitable because of the lack of complete donkeys. In Montana where I am at the state has a pot cap on all poker games even nl so a no limit game is really a $2-$150 game. Im not sure how other states do this. But this does not make for good poker.

Lower stakes = higher winrate than 3BB/100 is more sustainable due to donks.

Limit is nice since you can get a lot mor experience playing with the same buck than you would if you played NL (or you can play with a very small BR without your risk of ruin being next to 100% like if you were to play NL with 1-2BI). Given, the experience still noly applies to limit games, but LHE opens you up to other limit games such as Stud variants and Draw variants wich can be profitable.

I'm currently trying to get from break-even/losing player (I've looked, and am currently losing from 3-4k hands of online play) to winning player. Maybe I'll just play ultra micros along with SNG to force me to get out of the BR grind mentality (must make money) since I've proven that I can beat very easily the 3.40 turbos (30% ROI in approx to 170 games).

I don't really get limit. (Haven't studied it though) Seems very difficult to win at because you can raise the pot up enough to drive out other players.

But then again, I have only played it at the lowest limits, with play money, so the games just seem like calling station fests to me.

I'll have to give it a try at higher levels.
good luck to ya

I have been playing quite a lot of limit at .25/.50 lately, and doing pretty well. Personally, I find it much more intriguing than NL, strategy wise.

If you intend to play limit extensively, Holdem Poker for Advanced Players is a MUST read. Howard Lederer's video on the game is helpful as well, although he recommends a much too nitty style to suit me.

I prefer Limit over NL nowadays. I had a good month last month playing the six max .25/.50 games and I was able to move up in stakes fairly quickly.

That said, I'm going to switch back to NL for a while to keep my games mixed up, that way I dont get too bored. You should realize that limit and NL are two different games. Limit is not just a way to play holdem without risking all your money. It requires different strategies and a little more analysis for each hand, imo.
