Late Registration, somewhat disgraceful

FTOPS 24. Look at it. they are letting people register up to 48 minutes late for this, maybe more. Full tilt should just accept their mistake in putting the guarantee's so high without realizing mini ftops was going to take a good portion of the ftops players. That is all.

It used to be that all the chips were laid out in front of every seat and the dealer would take the empty seats blinds as the game went on.

Then, if you bought in late, you would have to sit down in front of a short, or blind pilfered, stack.

Now, at Hawaiian Gardens, Hustler and Commerce, (and prolly the rest for all I know) they let you buy in ANY TIME UNTIL THE END OF THE FIRST BREAK WITH A FULL STACK.

This never sat well with me.

Nope,doesn't seem fair. If they are going to do this they should allow anyone with less than a full stack to do a re-buy for a minimal amount. Perhaps a % based on how much they need. At the casino nearby if your not registered by the start time you're sol.

It is true that it dilutes the overlay in this instance. However, as a general rule, players who join the tourney late concede an edge to those who start on time.

If you have confidence that your skill level is higher than the average in the tournament (and if it isn`t, why are you playing ?) then it is to your advantage to play more hands, especially in the earlier levels when blinds are low and there are more post-flop decisions to be made.

Same thing on Poker Stars Sunday $250k...when cards started flying there were 22,708 players...end of registration 45-50 mins later...28,917 registered but only 14,831 players left. (I'm in 1609th)

I agree, this really isnt fair... the only disadvantage you get to registering late is you start as a short stack... but if you're a decent player then you shouldnt have a problem handling being a short stack and can double up in no time to have an average stack... as oppososed to registering on time and taking a few bad beats withing the first few levels

I'm not a big fan of late reg. at all, my thoughts are if you can't show up on time then you should'nt be able to have a seat, there are many people who will show up early for these events just to be ready.. Its really not fair that people can show up late and still get a seat.

I hate the late registration thing.

I enjoy the late registration, however on such a big tourney there should be a shorter cap on the late registration of no later then the first 30 mins. In the end it doesnt matter what we like, the sites will continue to do what is profitable

I don't mind the late registration thing but I like how some tournaments close it after the first player is eliminated, or in the case of a shootout they divide the players up to the number of tables they need to get full tables in next rounds then close once those tables are full. EX. if a shootout started with with 2456 players then those players get divided up as even as possible on 250 tables and registration is open til 44 more players join or first player is eliminated.

late reg never bothered me when it runs through the first blind change, kinda dumb imo to let it go all the way to first break though.

i agree with egon, a skilled player will benefit by playing more hands, especially with low blinds. anyone who plays at tilt knows that there are always people jumping in after registration. if you don't like it i guess you could just register late if you think it is to your advantage. good luck to all that play, hope one of us cardschat players gets a big score.

It has it's advantages, but definitely should be limited to a short time. 10 minutes tops.

Agreed.I would think that 10 mins is alot fairer for everyone.

5 - 10 min should be plenty of time for late registration

THere's no advantage to starting a tourney late... why would anyone want to conciously want to do so is beyond me??
There have been times where I was out and not sure if I'd be home in time for a tourney, not wanting to reg. in advance in case I wasn't able to make it home. Late reg. has been great for this.

I can count off numerous tourneys that I've missed by 30secs., 2mins. etc. - - arriving home late and then opening up the poker site only to discover I have to run an update prior to getting into the tourney lobby. I've probably missed a half dozen CC games on account of this.

The only situation where late registration really sucks imo, is for satellite tournaments, where one used to be able to see how many are entering and how many will be paid and then can decide if they're interested in giving it a shot. Now when you play them, the field doubles or triples 'after' the satellite tourney starts. I don't particularly like this myself (but then again I'm totally turned off of satellites after the Ftops donkellites..... wow... frigg'n horrible games).

I'd rather have more people who just register on a whim play. As mentioned before it's a disadvantage to start later if you have an edge in the tournament. If you think starting later is an advantage there's nothing stopping you from just not buying in on time and waiting half hour to buy in. Obviously this holds true as long as it's still early, but as far as I know most tourneys are max 1 hour long late registration and these are usually the ones that take 5+ hours for bubble to break so not being able to accumulate chips definitely outweighs the small advantage of being 100% to be in it with starting stack an hour in.

In the past (on Fulltilt) there'd also be some satellites I'd enter because the guarantee payout was greater than the number of entrants playing in them. I'd wait til' just prior to start time and would enter if it appeared to be fairly lucrative (along with a bunch of others doing the same though, lol). Not anymore.

I love when the daily dollar starts on full tilt on time with 400 players - then by the end of late reg. you have a whopping 800 - 1400 more players

I wonder if they'd get the message if EVERYONE registered late...the tourney starts and there are 0 players. Be impossible to coordinate but I'm really an anarchist at heart.

I don't understand what is wrong with it. True late buy-ins give players a minute advantage but at the same time, they have less time to start to win money and they play to the same blinds so it could hurt them.

Guys...I really do wish i had your problems to complain about. Some of us are still working to catch up to u so i have nothing to offer but I wanted to let u know it could be much worse for you....lol

Quite correct, imo. If you get to the first break with no more chips than you started with, you made a weak start to the tourney. No reason to worry overmuch about opponents who handicap themselves that way and give you a head start.

What I dislike about the late registration for even the micro tourneys at FT is that I might be in the lobby and see a $3 tourney about to start with 200 people in it, and that's cool. I may not feel like playing something that will take 7 hours to win, should I be fortunate enough to contend. But by the time 10 minutes are up, that tournament will have 800 or so players.

I don't get busted by this anymore, I'm not that stupid, but that's what bugs me about it.

I hate late registration. I'm a firm believer in being on time. If you're late for a tournament... oh you're late? Too bad, shove off.
