I'm disapointed-what's your view I've been playing poker for about 6 weeks and really enjoying it. I have ever played online games before. Therefore, this is a bit of a shock. I have experienced a level of fowl language I thought not exceptable in a public arena. Last friday on the freeroll the "f" word came up several times when someone thought they should have won a hand. Not just a cc freeroll but at several lower dollar levels. UB and AP are the worst. I was raised with the axiom "if you dont have anything good to say keep quiet". Am i making to much of this? Is this a thing young people do? I just going to egnore it and keep on playing.

re: I'm disapointed-what's your view poker well yea it could be stopped for an individual player, but if i were to have to email support for everyone that was abusive in the chat window well id have no time to play poker an idividual can be stopped but the chat abusers as a group cant, way too many of them

Sorry, but this is the "my one vote doesn't matter" mentality. I don't buy it. I don't report someone because he said "shit" in the chatbox. I report obvious chat abusers. People that would get the snot beaten out of them if they ever had the stupidity to say some of those things in a live game. If everyone did a bit, things would clean up some. It will never be totally stopped, but some improvement is still worth it.

I`m with JD on this. I have reported particularly bad cases in the past, and the sites do take it seriously. At one site, I made a report to live support and a manager popped up in the chat box at the table within 5 minutes. He told the two guys who were cursing each other that their accounts would be closed if they didn`t cool it.

Along with the reporting of the bad chat, most sites give you the option of shutting off chat altogether, or specifically a single player. Sometimes this option is found by clicking on a players avatar. Sometimes it is more difficult to find, perhaps via the 'options'.

re: I'm disapointed-what's your view poker I concur with the advice given so far. I have also phoned support a couple of times and had them watch the chat when a particulary nasty person is trying to reak havoc. The one person that realy stands out was at the finaly table of a 5000 player game and some railbird (no in the game)was some gay guy soliciting rather bluntly. Bodog took steps right then and the offender's account was closed and his funds forfieted acording to a follow up letter I recieved from Bodog. I should note this is the only time they have sent a follow up letter to me but they did take care of the matter each time I've called. If someone is bothering you there is a quick solution, go to options and block chat from that person or whole room so it doesn't affect your play. If it is someone playing at your table you can usually click on their avatar and select block chat to shut them up. These idiots are usualy trying to put you on tilt to get you to make bad plays. Don't let 'em bother you and pretty soon they'll dig their own hole deep enough that you or another player at the table will dispatch them. Watching chat is also a good way to pick up on "tells" too....

Pokerstars, in particulr, takes all such complaints very seriously. And, hey will act on them quickly and effeciently. Nobody has to put up with offensive and abusive behavior from other players.

re: I'm disapointed-what's your view poker I have a bad mouth towards players who just make the dumbest plays and suck out.. but its because I just have anger issues. People who make good plays and beat me however I am cool about. I will admit I have been foul mouthed. I also like to tilt the donks who start running their mouth and I really get them going.

I think there is another dimension to this. If a player is releasing steam due to tilt, I think it is useful to know that. Poker-related information is always useful. I can understand the sentiment of the OP. However, while the maxim of only saying good things about people is noble and would make the earth a better place, it is unachievable even in real life, let alone on the Internet. I have never turned off an individual chat because I feel that additional information is useful. An exception would be if they are chatting about something completely unrelated to the game. I have had only one extreme case where a person kept saying the most vulgar sex-related things. I warned him that if he continues, I will contact support and his chat will be suspended. He continued, I emailed support, and his chat was suspended. I sometimes flame people for idiotic plays. Strictly speaking, I shouldn't be doing it because it is a waste of my time. I usually do it at freerolls if I am not multi-tabling. I generally use words that one can hear even on PAD. Interestingly enough, this results in many players assuming that I am on tilt and this benefits me since I usually play tight against such opponents and getting called more is a net benefit for me. I just want to point out that I am not flaming for that reason, as say Tony G does. In summary, I think it should be recognized that this is the Internet and that the standards of communication are lower. While this deosn't mean that anything goes, we cannot expect to have the same standards as live communication. In addition, at poker rooms, people meet each other for the first time and often for the last time. This encourages even looser language. But from the point of view of poker, any information about a player is helpful to me. This is why I never turn chat off.
