Started off playing every 2 weeks or so with friends, we then (myself and KillerKat) started up a game in a local bar every Monday. We usually have 2-3 tables going at this stage. That game is now on every Sunday as well. And there is also a bar game on every Thursday for a higher buy-in. If you guys want any advise on how to set this up give me a shout and ill see if i can help out. Advantages : No rake, quality of a lot of the players is poor, you can have a pint, easy to make a lot of money. Disavantages : Drunks sitting at the table, having to explain the rules to total beginners, not every bar likes a poker game running. The Sunday game is usually very enjoyable though, and seems that there is no casino's within a 3 hour drive it perfect for me.

I go to Atlanta about once a month to visit my daughter and we generally end up at the $50 buy-in at the Elks lodge. Best I've done is top 20 (gets free buy-in) but the food and beer is free. In fact we'll be playing this Friday as Jackie's birthday is Saturday and that's my present...

I really enjoy live games I am fortunate to have the opportunity to play 2-4 free tournaments every day if I want, plus some small stakes cash games. The tournaments vary in numbers from 15 or so to 60+ depending on the day, time and location. We play for points and those of us who "qualify" with at least 1200 points by February (I have over 900 so I should make it ok) get to play in a tournament for a seat in the WPT. There are other smaller prizes along the way ranging from pizza to chip sets to weekend get-away-trips. Even more than the prizes or the possibility of cash, I enjoy the people. I just started playing in September and I have made several wonderful friends. I miss going when I am on-call for work or have other family obligations because I miss the people, the laughs, and even the frustration! At one game last week I had 2 full houses get snatched (UGH!); my 7's over 9's got called by someone with 9's over 7's, and then my 9's over J's got smashed by another player's J's over 9's. On the other hand, I took out two guys at once this weekend when I flopped an A high flush as the dealer. The two other players each had 2 pair on the flop and the stakes were already up to 2k/4k so it didn' take long until all 3 of us were all-in! Or a couple weeks ago while playing at a cash game to celebrate the wedding of two players, I called my boyfriend's pocket Q's (very experienced player who dealt in Vegas and Laughlin for nearly 10 years) with AQ and got 2 A's for the full house which took him out in 4th place when we were paying to 3rd. I ended up with 1st that game but the look on his face was worth way more than the $$! I visited Vegas for the first time in September, too, and played a couple tournaments as well as some low $ tables. I thought it was great that I could sit and play and chat with people and get free drinks for 6 hours and come out $5 ahead! Much more reasonably priced than going to the movies or out to dinner! We are going back in December and I am very much looking forward to it. Anyway, for any of you who have thought about playing live but weren't sure....... I encourage you to give it a try. I am not a great player but I am learning more every day and the feedback I get from other players is really helpful. Perhaps I will even see you at the live tables sometime! ENJOY! Gizzi

I play in a live game every tuesday at a buddies house. .50/1, initial buy-in is $50. Last night there was over 1k in chips in play. Usually get 7/8 people, but last night there was 11 people throughout the night. Good table, but loose as a goose players, so when you get a hand you can't slow play it. I usually come out decent, last night I cashed out for $200 profit. I also like to go to Turning Stone if I can during the week, but AC is equal distance as is Foxwoods. I haven't been to AC yet but plan on it in the near future. I should be at turning stone next week for a day or two so look out for me!

Back in Vegas, I play basically every other day live when I can. So far here in NY, havn't really had much time to play live. Don't really know a lot of people here, especially don't really know any poker players yet. Also, havn't really had the time to play so far here.

re: How many CardsChatters play live ? poker I think a poll should be always open, for new member to vote. This way you get more accurate results (and right now there's really only 45 votes). It was not my intention to resurrect an old thread. I simply put my vote and made a quick intro comment.

have to really play online to get a game. All my friends either play every once in a while (a long while) because their interested isn't that strong, or when we want to get a game going every week, it's only about 3 of us who are dedicated, and the rest are whimsical about it after week 1 or 2. When we do get a game together, it's usually buy in's with a set max (usually 5 bucks) and you can cash out at any time. Generally people either bust out or we all cash out at around the same time. The problem is these people are pure novice to new levels, i've been called or have seen calls and bets with the worst hands, it makes novice players online look smart. Normally I clean up (take about 27 bucks?) but after that they dont want to play again for a long time =P, and there's always a chance i'll get busted by pure luck

re: How many CardsChatters play live ? poker i wish i could play casinos. I dont know if it's just me, but I find ring games online much harder than ring games in real life between friends or even people i've never really played with at all before (Friends of friends). Maybe it's because i play a lot of quality people online (although people might say contrary for FT ring games at the cent level ) or it's just the feel. Anyone know what Im talking about? I feel that i can comfortably play 20 dollar buy in's with 1/2 blinds or higher in real life, but I'm too afraid right now to venture to the .50-1$ tables online! Im still a novice in many ways, but I feel better playing in person with much higher stakes than online. the only exception being online tournaments, I do really well in those compared to my online ring game play =P
