I am new to this site so if this has already been discussed let me know:) .
I am having trouble with building my bankroll on FT, and I seem to be having a problem in general with online play. Now I don't consider myself to be a great poker player yet, but, I do pretty well in live tournement play. My question is how do you build a bankroll online when you have so many donks playing that don't understand a big portion of the game? I consistently get bad beats and am about to throw my comp out the window:mad: , does anyone have any suggestions??

Read the online articles that are posted above. Get some of your hand histories and post them on here also for the players to review. They may be able to point something out that you could have done differently. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to keep from getting your money taken by donk play. Keep grinding away and don't give up.

Thanks for the feedback, I never thought about having people look at my actual hand histories to see a leak in my play. I am always looking for feedback so that I can learn more!

The players who don't understand the game are where your online BR will come from. Don't curse them, embrave them. Just learn to play carefully around them. Play strong hands aggressively, steer clear of coinflips as much as possible.

If you post some hand histories, there's lots of great people here can and will help you. Best guess? The first thing they'll tell you: play fewer hands. Starting hand selection is a very tricky business, but it's one of the keys, maybe the main key, to winning poker.

Thanks for the advice reglardave! I do have to admit that I will risk a lot of chips on coin flips and get aggressive at the wrong times. I will try to post some hand histories tomorrow, I have class tonight so it's my off night for poker :(

hey dude,

I found when building a roll on FTP that the low stakes cash were a nightmare so i switched to micro SnG's and got on a lot better. Also make sure you are on rakeback as it is free money!

Re: How to Build Your Bankroll online?

Another couple of tips that I can offer offer that may possibly help is to make sure that you are focused when playing and to make sure that you're not in a position where you're asking to get out-drawn/sucked-out on or where you're heads-up at best. Don't forget to take regular breaks, especially if you're playing for a long time. Try to take some time before sitting down to play to get your head in the right mindset, similar to the preparation involved in going to the casino for a live game (drive to the casino, waiting for a table, etc..) and to filter out potential distractions.

Another tip that could possibly help is to evaluate your play after a session or two. If you wish, you can invest in a program that looks at your stats like PT. I haven't gotten it as of yet, but probably in the future. I meant more so in looking not just where you can improve, but also look at some good plays that you made and remember the situation so that you can repeat it in the future. Essentially, this is tied to getting more time and practice on the table, but it's extremely vital to be aware of what you've been doing in the past and then tweaking or making changes to keep improving your game.

Good luck on the tables, anyways though!

These are some great tips! I was thinking of looking into a program to help with figuring out where my play is weak but wasn't sure which one to try. I also am now trying to play one table at a time so I can focus on the players to pick up any patterns, I just tend to get little bored but I know I should be focusing!
And now to sound like an ametuer, what is a rakeback and how do I get into this???

Also consider your tentative solution, throwing your computer out the window, will result in an even greater BR problem.

I think once you start an account it is too later to get rakeback. If I am wrong someone please let both of us know. But rake back is where you get a percentage of the rake you pay back at the end of the month.

On ftp you get rakeback only if you sign up initially (play money or real) in the rakeback program. You can't do it later. First deposit bonus is granted with your first real money deposit. If you start with rakeback and get a first deposit bonus, you must finish the first deposit before you start rakeback. Reload bonuses are granted from time to time when you put more money in.
