Help on setting up my own home games
Hey guys im interested in starting my own home games with around 6-10 people, i have a 9g clay chip set and cards, and a card table, i was just wondering what more you guys entail when u have a game. for instance, clear cut house rules, etc. Keep in mind it would be with college students with probably a $20 buy in. Thanks alot,

Best thing to do is set up what you want to run. Holdem, omaha? Tournament or ring (cash) game?
If you run a tournament, set up the blind structure before you start and have a timer or program to run it for you. A good free program would be tournamentdirector.net. House rules are not really needed unless you have people who have not played alot of poker. Then a quick explanation of splashing the pot, etc could be done. I prefer to keep it lighthearted and your players will feel the same. You make it serious and your friends will take it that way also. It is up to you. |

Nothing gets between friends faster than money so make sure the rules are simple and clear. I had a regular game at my house for 7 years and we all new the house rules and there was never a problem...

Definately set ground rules...
Here's a site that I found very useful for home games (chip amounts, blind levels, other random things). www.homepokertourney.com |

what i usally do with house games is play a tournament where we start of with blinds and raise them every 15 mins or so just like online and then once ppl start getting eliminated well start a side cash game so no 1 gets bored and we can keep gambling

You forgot the most important ingredients, beer and chips. And also sort out the payouts before you start to avoid any arguments. Little things like bum deals, flipping a card over while dealing it to a player are others ones to have clear cut rules for.
Enjoy, home games are great fun. |
