Full Tilt Poker Announces Onyx Cup Full Tilt Poker announced the Onyx Cup. A tournament series with buy-ins from $100,000 to $300,000, with an estimated $30 million prize pool across the entire series. There will be five preliminary events, culminating in a $250,000 buy-in Grand Finale that will see $1 million added to the prize pool. The top three finishers in each event will earn points toward the Onyx Cup leaderboard. Well, maybe if someone wants to stake me for it. Then I'd do it.. just so I could help the person who stakes me. Obviously the tournament is going to be full of fish and would be easy peasy! But.. I probably have something else to do that day, anyway.

I've already heard Negreanu complain that the first event is at the same time as the EPT Grand Final. He said if they move the date he will play, otherwise he's probably out. I bet a lot of the European pros and PokerStars pros will have to miss out in favor of the EPT, which leads me to believe this will end up being a very small field of mostly Full Tilt sponsored players.

Anyone else happen to notice who won the seat in Sunday's $640 buyin qualifier for the OnyxCup ($100K entry)? Yup.. it was Sorel Mizzi. There were 124 entrants, 1st place won $100K(+5k) entry. {over $30,000 overlay in this satellite!). So I guess it won't just be a field full of sponsored FTP pros... especially seeing as there's now one 'former FTP pro' who won a satellite for it. I read something about the final hand where Sorel (Imper1um) made what 'appeared' to be a preflop misclick (adding an additional 'zero' to the end of their bet... a trick I've seen some other pros do in the past (ie. ShaunDeeb but was during postflop play)).. raising up ~1/3 stack pre, (instead of 2.1bb) villain (or perhaps 'hero' in this hand, lol)... fell for it & reraised allin with A7o.. & got called by stronger Ax & lost. (< something like that anyways).
