Ye glad you all agree... A real disgrace to poker that and I think it would damage Tony G's reputation forever. I used to like the guy but that type of talk AFTER the hand was simply uncalled for! If i was the other guy I'd have hit him!!!!

The only worse than a sore loser is a sore winner. What an asshole, I'm really surprised the guy didn't punch him in the face, he definently deserved it.
The talking to try to induce the call is fine, as far as I'm concerned that is part of the game, but after that it is disgraceful. If I owned the casino I woulda thrown him out ![]() |

His asshole approach actually works very well at a table; I've seen him frustrate people to the point where they slam the table after losing a pot to him. Talking shit after you've busted someone is just pathetic, though; yes the guy made a terrible call (I don't know chip stacks exactly but they seemed decently stacked) with the KJ but jesus christ, Tony - SHUT THE FVCK UP and have some class.
'scuse my french but he really pisses me off :/ |

At first I hated him... But obviously it works no ?? I can't explain any other reason why someone would call his all in with KJ, other then he was frustraighted with Tony G..
As for the continuation of the trash talking when he got busted, there is still other people at the table that might think like all of you have.. And play differently since its Tony G.. And there is always next tourniment. He does take it a bit too far sometimes tho ![]() |

No one disagrees that his form of trash talk is bad at getting people to call with bad hands. In fact it was GREAT play getting him to call. No one is doubting that. However once the hand is over there is NO excuse for some of the comments (including discrimnatory comments over Russia!!!!!!!!!!!!) Its not bad, its an absolute disgrace. Its not a "haha serves you right".. its alot more. That should be banned, and so should he for that. |

From strictly a poker point of view, it does seem to work. Don't get me wrong if someone acted like this at a poker table that I was at I would be pretty upset but these guys are pro's and they know that Tony G talks a LOT.. Everyone loves to hate someone, so more people will be watching when Tony G is at a final table, or Mike the Mouth (Hate him even more).. Meaning sponsorships and etc.
I was not defending him, I think he is an asshole sometimes for what he does.. But I can understand why he does it, and probably would not 'knock him out' at or after the table. Last edited by Xife : 14-01-2007 at 10:13 PM. |

I'm not entirely sure it was good play. He has A2s and is 60/40 against any two cards. There is also a decent possibility that the other guy has Ax and that therefore he is dominated.
I think the plan was to induce the reraise from the Russian and go from there but Tony G picked up a really solid read that the Russian was weak and pushed in order to take the pot. Unfortunately the Russian called the all-in. I can't imagine Tony G was delighted with the call until he saw the cards and even then he must have been worried. He's a brilliant psychologist. Though after the hand when there are no chips to be won there is no excuse. |

Right... so you can understand why he insults the player who's been knocked out? Did you actually watch the full video out of interest??!?!?!??!?!?!!?!??!?!
How the hell can you understand why a player would insult someone and their entire country and game AFTER they've been knocked out!!!!!!!!!!! There is no need for it... none at all.. I can undersatnd the talk BEFORE the player is knocked out. Thats strategy. But after, it's stupidity and ego! |

You are obviously upset about it are you not ? You telling me if you sat down with Tony G. in a future tourniment your play wouldn't be effected at all due to the comments that he said ? Not to mention the other players that are still remaining at the table, It could effect their play as well. Once again, what he did was morally wrong i agree. |

Isn't he the nicest guy alive?
On 17 November 2006, he won the Betfair Asian Tour event held in Singapore, walking away with $451,700 half of which he indicated he will give to Asian and Australian charities to be nominated by Betfair. “His offer of a fifty per cent donation to charity is extraordinarily generous,” said Betfair’s Head of Poker Ben Fried. Tony also won a Merlion trophy as a symbol of Singapore which he promptly gave to Joshua so that the trophy would “stay in Singapore.” |

Yes, very disgraceful BUT...
This guy sure knows how to get publicity. There are plenty of pros that win more than Tony G but are not one-tenth as well known. Disgraceful? Yes. Smart? Yes, too. I even liked one of his lines so much that I put it in my sig V V V V |

Just an awe-inspiring thing to watch, did they have some kind of confrontation before that hand, or maybe were butting heads durin the tournament to prompt this? I kind of see the psychological warfare beforehand, and publicity is publicity, but is bad press really worth this? or does he just have low self-control?

Xife - I'm still confused to if you watched the whole thing.. the after talk when the player is already out is nothing to do with poker? So no it wouldnt make me do anything if I'm alright! morally wrong yes, but its a lot worse than that.. heck you could get arrested for saying some of those things in the UK!!!!!
Jesus - TBH he's so rich he can prob do it easily.. just more publicity for the monster! Ah well.. my number 1 aim in life... beat tony g. insult him for 10 mins after. |

As for getting arrested for saying such things ? That's pretty insane.. Those are some really tight laws in the UK.. I've heard worse things at a female high school match of soccer. All I was trying to say was that your play, and many others play.. will be effected by his remarks.. BTW this is freaken funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQmvT...elated&search= Last edited by Xife : 15-01-2007 at 12:08 PM. |

I've played with Tony on his site and managed to bust him for a nice 100 bounty. I don't find his talk great sportsmanship but we don't know what was going on prior to this. I actually remember watching this tournament and don't remember Perry ever getting out of line but they don't show you every hand. Tony's talked the guy into making a bad call. It isn't nice but it is legal.

Tony has a style . So does "The Mouth" Get over it poker isn't there to sit down and play nice it's about getting all your chips. So If I gotta be a little rude...To make you tilty of course I do that myself when super high stacked at the end of a tournament not only is it fun people will call you less then good hands and you can squash them. It's how I took 1st place in a tourney I kept trash talking bluffing and flipping my cards * I was onUB * then Would go all in on Rockets and get callled...ah i love that.
