Deciphering Poker Chat

It shouldn't suprise anyone that poker players are rarely telling the truth. In this respect I have been an interested observer of the 'doubletalk' that takes place in the guise of poker chat. People are saying one thing but really they mean another, such is the game where no-one wants to show any weaknesses or tells to the opposition. I have therefore decided to compile this list of common phrases that you will come across in your games to give you an idea of the of what is being meant rather than said:


lol = Fook, caught with my pants down

how you raise with that junk = You made me fold a good hand!

how could u call that? = Waaah! I want my chips/seat back!

wow! = I'm a seasoned shark trying to pass myself off as a noob

You're a donk/clown = I'm gunning for you now

nh = Noooooooooooo!

nh (by someone not in hand) = I made a great fold

ty = lol

gg = c ya, and I wouldn't wanna be ya!

gg (back from losing player) = f u too!

Great post althought last time i said gg to someone we had a 5 min chat in observer chat after which was nice espesially as he thought i was insulting him early in the game, which was just a misunderstanding. But most of its true and i always gg if i lose on the bubble, damn them.

so if ty = lol, and lol = caught with my pants down, then logical inference suggests that ty = caught with my pants down.

i'm baffled

i thought this would be more of a reverse psycology kind of thing......i have seen many times were people say "woops wrong button"= i have the nuts..please calll....or sometimes they are like..."its been a long night gg all(they go all in)=please call

Strangely..you would think this would be the case... But I would say 95% of the time people who say that are telling the truth.

Im a luckbox - I would like to inform that table that I suck at poker, Im a donk, and I make horrible plays that get rewarded.
