Technically, isn't AKQJ suited showing sort of crazier than 4 of a kind showing?
Think about it. In order to have AKQJs showing, your initial card must be a card A through J. Then the following 3 cards must be the only possible 3 cards in the deck that will give you that hand. In order to make a four of a kind, your initial card can be any card in the deck. The following 3 cards then would have to be the only possible 3 cards in the deck to give you 4 of a kind. Since your initial card can be any card, it actually gives you better odds to do this. |

Basically the odds of 4 of a kind here are 1 {first card can be anything} * 3/51 * 2/50 * 1/49 = 1/20,000ish. I am assuming we have no foreknowledge of any other cards, excuse me if this is wrong as I don't know stud that well.
Now, for A-J suited the first card can be any 1 of 16, then the remaining 3 are drawing from 3, 2, and 1 cards respectively. So 16/52 * 3/51 * 2/50 *1/49 = about 1/68,000ish. That's probably off but I think the logic is right. Good call combuboom. Of course, the odds of any specific 4 of a kind will be even tighter. |
